1970 Jensen Interceptor FF MkII For Sale by Auction
Here are a few photos of the car when I owned it back around the turn of the century. You can see why the next owner recovered the interior. ffdave evocatively termed the colour 'Nappy Brown' - not one you find in the Dulux catalogue!
I've never really been convinced by whitewall tyres; these soon went.
Just like buses, you never see an FF for ages, then 5 come along at the same time...archetypal 'Cars in a field' shot from a Midlands JOC International a few years back.
Thanks to John Wild's site for this one, back when it was unloved at Medway

Personal preference.
For my part I prefer the contrast of the blue paintwork to the nappy brown interior. I prefer it to the current black interior that I feel doesn't contrast that well with the exterior colour.

Anyone know how much this car sold for today and whether it went to a club member?

Buying at auction
Hi Tim
Mark here (SWR 20R), sorry for the delay in responding, despite visiting daily I missed your reply on the FF at auction page back in May.
Yes you are correct it is blue with blue interior and sheepskin inserts, wooden dash etc.
Do you or anyone else have any history on the car?
Cheers Mark

Result.
Stuart, I have just spoken to Brightwells. The car sold for xxx£18,000 + 10% buyers premium + VAT which I make xxx£22,770 (needed a pen and paper for that one.)
A lot of car for the money.

Well done Paul.
Bang goes my hope it would be withdrawn whilst the owner sought a sale to an overly tall Jensen fanatic with insufficient funds!

The mystery buyer - another FF retained in UK!
Gents,
Apologies for the delay in revealing my purchase last year at auction for the speculated price - after negotiation after auction with previous owner due to the tenacity of young (but motivated) auction professional at Brightwells.
The History - I fell in love with the car's classic design when a kid watching 1970 TV - that back screen & stylish form, then discovered the FF version through much reading etc...- its only taken me 30+ years to find the quality of car in the right colour (& sorry love the black re-leather) who ever thought tan works on sports GT's ("had to be designed by a man" - as the better-half has commented!).
Now practicalities - drove the car back to my part of the world from Auction late one Friday evening - great first drive (though broke down within 30 miles of home) massive smoke cloud from manifold on right side - didn't want to take chances so got trailered home. Now looking for a rolling 5-10 years spend to get this great vehicle back to new - Copredy Bridge been "the" garage for this exercise in all the mags / books for years - Question guys?
"is this still the place to go to / work with for a rolling restoration - as want to enjoy the car over the next few years" - get involved in the club and learn more.
By the way, many thanks for the past pics of this car's history - adds to the ring binder file I got from past owner! - anything more on the history of the car would be greatly appreciated?
Anyway, apologies again for my tardiness in putting you guys out of your misery re where this super FF ended up - look forward to talking some more!
Regards,
FitzFF (Neil)

great lookin car, i reckon if you have any sense you will just get little bits of jobs done at the car and keep drivin and enjoying it or if you look in the ff section you can have a car that looks pretty good then within a few weeks strip it down and end up with 2 lengths off metal lying in front of you bugger thatFitzFF wrote:Gents,

Cropedy are still around and have now gone back under the day to day control of Bob Cherry (you may hear a few not so nice things about Cropedy from earlier when V-Eight were involved).FitzFF wrote: Now looking for a rolling 5-10 years spend to get this great vehicle back to new - Copredy Bridge been "the" garage for this exercise in all the mags / books for years - Question guys?

There are other specialists that I can recommend, I guess it all depends where in the country you are. Appleyard Engineering in Ilkestone are very good (they also supply parts). They look after one of the rock star FFs. There is a very good guy near me in Bristol, Ken Bird at Portbury Service Station. He had looked after my cars since I stopped using Cropredy (when I moved to Bristol).
Dave Barnett in Hornchrch Essex also comes highly recommended, and for paintwork there is C&H Autos in Essex, Colin Holley is rebulding my FF at the moment (a later mark 2, chassis 275).
I can certainly second Duncan's comment about using the car rather than taking it off the road straight away!
Oh and not forgetting Duncan Watts (cannonball) for gearboxes and FF units....

I'd make four lists, two for major and minor work which dont take the car off the road, then two more for major/minor work which do take the car off the road, this gives you jobs for summer and jobs for winter, on these lists you can apply budgets alongside, listing parts or tools required, some jobs are easy to do yourself others require tools that cost more than paying someone to do it for you.
Found myself putting jobs off because they took car off the road, but when i had to do them it was the ultimate bad timing, just before the International, hence i never made it. What a mistaka to maka!
Planning is everything.
Shaun.

If I had a beautiful Mk III, an immaculate original Convertible and an award winning 541 in the garage I would allow myself the luxury of an unbelievably comprehensive ground up rebuild on a tired FF. As a club we should be grateful that some individuals have the inclination and the money to undertake such projects to ensure the longeavity of the marque.
I appreciate that Duncan's remark may have been partly in jest however I feel that we shouldn't undermine the incredible work that Ron Clay is doing on that car.
That's my tuppence worth.
Regards,
Paul.
