is the Trumph a NZ built car? And you do not see many of these cars in the U.K. either, so I'd guess very rare

2.5 PI Mk2 Estate - yes, pretty rare in this pre-facelift (the prettiest) form.
Great cars these "big" saloons, although this is not a saloon of course!
Interesting to see this one seems to wear nice real Rostyle wheels by the look of it. Standard fitment were questionable fake (5 nuts whereas the Triumph actually has 4 wheel nuts) Rostyle wheel trims.

I think only the saloons were assembled here. By far the majority were TCs (our family car for years) rather than PIs. They were extremely popular here - and the favoured car of late Prime Minister Sir Robert "Piggy" Muldoon, who drove his to Parliament every day.
The vehicle register says this one was first registered brand new here, but I'd be reasonably certain it was imported fully built up.

I was told by an instructor on the skid pan at Hendon, that the full size wheel disks, like these fake rostyles or the ribbed version, had little openings through which the valve stems peeked.
In the hands of the Police, violent acceleration or braking could cause the covers to rotate at a different speed to the wheel, amputating the valve stems and leading to instant flat tyres.
Thus, all Police Triumphs were fitted with tiny little hubcaps instead.

From the web address on the side of the van the Swiss owner makes a living from building sandcastles (presumably not in Switzerland!)
I think I got my career all wrong.
Nice van!

Amazing cars. I remember a day in the sixties in France on a very twisty road whilst driving a Fiat 850S, that I could not keep up with one of these vans. They had a superb roadholding.

As a fan and owner of "big" Triumph saloons, I always hated when someone said these were good for povriding the engine and gearbox for a TR6. A lot of Saloons were scrapped just because of this. I think the same applies to Austin / VandenPlas Princesses.

I share your pain - seeing lovely old 1950s Lagonda saloons used as engine donors for Aston replicas etc.
I think the problem with the Princess is that 90% of its appeal is the luxury interior, and once that has been allowed to deteriorate it becomes virtually worthless.
