1952 - Jensen's idea for the future Austin sports car

1952. Austin and Morris merged and formed BMC. Lord Nuffield (Morris) obviously favoured MG and his idea of future sports car policy became the MGA. Leonard Lord (Austin) asked Jensen Motors to come up with some designs, based on current Austin mechanicals.

Jensen's Chief of Body design, Eric Neale, submitted a modern design based on a new cruciform chassis, with very stylish open (and later closed) two-seater bodywork. As luck would have it, the car was not ready for the October Motor Show, Leonard Lord saw Healey's new sports car on display, and he did a deal with Donald Healey for the future Austin-Healey sports car.

But the Jensen protype survives and has recently changed hands. Hopefully the new owner will join the forum?
