Interceptor FF
Interceptor FF
Just in case this hasn't been posted here an Interceptor FF is now available.
The rear wheels are driven by a GM V8, and the fronts by an electric motor each.
Though completely academic for me as I sadly don't have anything like the recources available to consider one, but such restomods don't appeal to me, but for those who do and to whom it does...

Re: Interceptor FF
I think it’s great. I know purists will hate it but to my eyes it looks like a good modern take on the Interceptor. I have a modern four wheel drive plug in hybrid and the drive and performance are excellent.

Re: Interceptor FF
I've seen it on FaceBook but to my eyes it looks ungainly.
Whereas I love the look of the "Viperceptor" which was based on Keith Anderson's drawings, this just doesn't work for me.

Re: Interceptor FF
The Viperceptor looks far more coherent to me too.
I dare say that if one had the resources available, JIA could make a standard looking car with the revised mechanicals.
The question for me is, what place will such restomod cars have in say 10 years time, when they're then neither classic nor modern?
I guess it's a different market place altogether, and such details needn't concern those who can genuinely consider such outlay to buy one. Unfortunately, that's not me, so I'm sure JIA aren't at all bothered by my misgivings.

Richie ,
I 100% Agree. With 2 Restomods in auctions tomorrow (02/03/24)
We will have a clearer picture.
Talking of pictures is the JIA actually done & complete ? The photograph looks a little bit rendered / AI ?

"I owned an ff in the seventies and it’s a very different car. Big block 7 litre Chrysler block and not short of power. I used to race my boss in his 911 turbo and the ff left it standing. Handling wasn’t bad but wasn’t good.saying that my brother in law borrowed it and got chased by the police in it. They started chasing him in Southampton and they only caught up with him at cosham near Portsmouth as he was busy testing the handling on the big roundabout. He was only caught as he ran out of petrol. 10 to the gallon normally and 6 with the air con on."Nicholas Lightbown wrote: ↑Sat Mar 02, 2024 7:26 am Some interesting, well-informed, comments from the Pistonheads community...

Re: Interceptor FF
It does look a bit rendered doesn't it, and, as far as I can tell, there's no pics of that car, or one even vaguely similar, on JIAs website.
Very conspicuous by its absence there.
The wings on that pic / render don't look long enough to belong to an FF. So has that pic been taken / created by JIA or Evo magazine, (where that pic came from) perhaps? I dunno...
My (mis?)understanding was that this car will be based on an Interceptor with the front wheels being driven by electric motors, hence the "Interceptor FF" nomenclature.
Edit - I've also found this pic, from the Goodwood website, so it's clearly a render.

I much prefer this rendering, as shamelessly stolen from the internet

Re: Interceptor FF
I think it looks pretty grim, like a low budget 70s Capri body kit. Those wheel arches, the rear spoiler, that badge on the front bumper, just no.

Re: Interceptor FF
Yes well spotted Colin! Hmm, maybe the Aston Martin style trim across the double vents. Put that in the list instead.
I wouldn't be bothered at all if they scratch built a new car that looked like that AI based rendering. Instead they cut up a classic. How about a tubular space frame perfectly designed for their drive line, and a hand wheeled aluminium body? The SV8 didn't need to wreck a classic for each new car. It is easier than ever to get stuff you have CAD designed made up for you.
