Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
Hi All,
I just installed MkIII rims on my MkII. And fount it does not fit. Particularly, it touches from calipers very hard (wheels almost no turn). Does anybody have same situation?
Regards,
Alexander

Just front wheels? Both sides? What about rear? Any pictures? There is a variation between batches of MK3 wheels. What do your calipers look like?
In general the MK3 wheels go straight on to later MK1 and all MK2 cars.

Can't really see the calipers properly. Are they the original calipers?

If it's an early Mk2 with pressed steel upper wishbones then that will be your problem , the later type upper wishbones that are cast steel have the correct clearance ..I bet your Mk3 alloys are scraping on the pressed steel upper wishbones..if so just take a bit off of them with a grinder or change them for the later cast ones ..ask me how I know

There are the pressed steel upper wishbones that will rub on Mk3 Alloys here Alex, it's the ends that touch the wheel >>>Grant wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 3:16 pm If it's an early Mk2 with pressed steel upper wishbones then that will be your problem , the later type upper wishbones that are cast steel have the correct clearance ..I bet your Mk3 alloys are scraping on the pressed steel upper wishbones..if so just take a bit off of them with a grinder or change them for the later cast ones ..ask me how I know

A thin wheel spacer also works like they used on the MK111 FF's .I think I used an 8 mm or 10 mm one on the last one I did.

I never knew that Steve! Were the spacers used on the front only? The rear axle was presumably exactly like a Mk3 Interceptor unless Jensen decided to widen the track?Steve Payne wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 6:25 pm A thin wheel spacer also works like they used on the MK111 FF's .I think I used an 8 mm or 10 mm one on the last one I did.

Yes I think so, I have only ever worked on one but it had thin spacers on the front.

Gentlemen, thank you very much for your suggestions and resolutions& I will definitely try thin spacers. Thank you very much again!
Re: Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
Hi Alex..Have you taken the wheel off yet to see what is actually touching the rim, you should see scrape marks on whatever is touching the rim, I would be very thankful if you could let us know please Alex, and if possible..take a pic and post it up, we say here(or I do) "Picture or it didn't happen"..With kindness..Grant

If that is the way you should also fit longer studs!!Steve Payne wrote: ↑Tue Feb 20, 2024 6:25 pm A thin wheel spacer also works like they used on the MK111 FF's .I think I used an 8 mm or 10 mm one on the last one I did.

Re: Interceptor MkIII rims on MkII
They can't have thought they were needed as the studs were standard length on the one I worked on.
