The examples you mention are new cars based on a previous design, but this is an old car that is modernized. I don't think that's comparable. Based on the A and B posts Keith's design seems to be the latter. Looks to be exceptionally well executed though, if you compare the car to the visualisations.Chris_R wrote: ↑Sun Jan 28, 2024 1:50 pm Many moons ago when there was a fad for designing new cars based on an old design (think here of the Rover 75, Jaguar S Type, new VW Beetle and possibly some others too), Keith Anderson produced an image of what someone might do in a similar vein for the Interceptor.

Chris was merely stating the inspiration for my designs. No need for such pedantry.

You're not really claiming that there is no difference, visually, between modern pillars and those from the 60s?

Fully agree with Felix. Also, I do not see pedantry, he is just stating facts.
Keith, your answers often have a way to make people annoyed, or irritated. Amazing because usually there is no reason at all for that.

It's an interesting and worthwhile design excercise, and it's impressive that someone built it, but for me it makes more sense for it to be a one off rather than one of many. It's still an old car, even with the modifications. I'd maybe change the mirrors to those weird ones with the cameras

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M
I admire the engineering and the undoubtedly transformed performamce and road holding. I also admire the bravery of the customer for whom it was made, but its a risk. How does it run? Does everything work? Does it overheat? etc etc, There are several wonderful cars in that sale at what look like very low estimates, including three Bentley Arnage .. I must be getting old!

And one of the Arnages is ex Princess Anne! Or you couid have a 2018 Jaguar I-Pace EV400 normally c£20k for a mere £55-70k because it was first owned by the King!
The Viperceptor looks better with additional photos and will probably be even more impressive in the hall but at £90-£117k inclusive it faces strong competition from several Ferraris, a Lambo Gallardo, a Bentley Continental Supersport etc etc etc all priced at much less, and several Astons at a lot less. It’s a very impressive line up of more modern classics. Always weak on pre-war, but did Jensen make cars before the war??
A friend and I will have two hours to view them all which at 183 cars is about 40 seconds a car with no toilet breaks!

David, you are incorrigible - no pre-War Jensens indeed! Unless you want to look at every mini, 2CV and Fiat you'll have a lot more than 40 seconds for each. Good luck.

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M
‘Tis an oft repeated phrase Mike amongst the very knowledgeable at VSCC Prescott when seeing my car - “I never knew Jensen made cars before the war”. I’ve heard it elsewhere too . . . I do vainly hope that one of the pre-war Jensen restoration projects will emerge at auction one day, they can’t slumber for ever, but realistically it’s not likely to be at this auction house.

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M
Interesting how the commendable effort by the builder to christen it the "Segrave" has fallen by the wayside. Some names just seem right, and it will always be the Viperceptor to most people.
Rather like the Dartford Crossing bridge is officially the "QE2 bridge", but is almost universally, and confusingly, referred to as the "Dartford tunnel bridge"! The recent attempt to re-brand London's overground lines sees the Upminster-Romford line dubbed the Liberty Line, but I predict it will remain to most people the "Push and Pull", as it has been since Victorian lines.

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M
I have to retract my words now I have viewed the new photos, I really like the way they have kept some old and added some new, overall I would value at £50-£60k with these new photos. A rich person might pay more just for the fun of it and fun it would be, but when they come to sell, I doubt they would get in todays market more than £50k. But in tomorrows market, if it does rise again, or hopefully when it arrives again, then all running and driving Jensen Interceptors will be valued possibly £20k higher than today.

Re: Viperceptor at Historics Auction RUF 340M
Had a good look at the Viperceptor this morning and it really is an enormously impressive piece of work. I hope it does well, although it is parked right next to one of its competitors in the sale, a beautiful red Ferrari at quite a bit less. I think there will be someone out there who wants the Viperceptor at the estimate but it’s more a question of whether there are two, as two ferrets are needed to fight it out in the sack to reach the estimate.
Very glad to see the dark blue Interceptor MkII is parked in the main building with the top stuff rather than with the many cars relegated to the rain outside.

I popped down to Ascot this morning as well. Three in one sale needed to be seen.

I was watching this & thought it got to £70k?
Maybe a deal was done soon behind the scenes ?
