Model Overview with Specs (help!)

Post by felixkk »

We're trying to put together a overview of the models, and I'm having difficulty finding some of the specs. The figures are in various colours depending on from where I got the info. Orange and blue are probably the most reliable sources. The figures in red are from a Swiss publication which gave an overview of all the cars for sale in the given year, and are not always 100% accurate. The figures in grey I'm not sure about.

Can anyone help with accurate figures from reliable sources? I'll be more than happy to post a link to the Excel sheet once it's complete.

Your figure of 47 is correct for the 3.6 litre S type. The 2.2 litre were X types so best ignored.

There were 13 H types. (numbered 1 to 12 plus HC1).

Felix,

Great work!

The G Series of RHD Mk3s kept the 383 (6276) engine - from the late Richard Calver's website:

In 1972, Chrysler stopped making its old workhorse, the 383. With more than three million of these worthies having been built, the corporation now relied on its low-compression 440 ci unit for the heavy duty sector of the market in cars, vans and pickups. Left without further stocks of the 383, Jensens started fitting the 440s, the largest of the Chrysler engines, to the Interceptor. The change occurred from November 1971 on the LHD cars and from May 1972 on the RHDs. The 1971 G-series 383s, running low-compression (8.7:1) pistons for the pollution-conscious US market, had been down about 10% on power when compared with the earlier high-compression units.

In terms of colours heaps of information on the late Richard Calver's website: https://www.richardcalver.com/marques.htm

Cheers

You can get all the information you need from the following, which I assume you have. Most Jensen info online is not reliable.

Jensen Genome
Original Interceptor & FF
Jensen 1934-1965 (original road tests and specs)
Jensen: The Surviving 3 1/2 & 4 1/4 Litre cars

Numbers on pre Early Interceptor cars from memory are 50 S-Types and 14 H-Types, 3 K-Types, 1 X-Type, 18 PWs -refer to Genome listings and texts
Jensen S-Type Tourer 1938 S44
Alvis Speed 25 SC Charlesworth Saloon 1938
Mercedes CL 600 V12 2001
Used to own 1938 S-Type Tourer S34, CV8 MkII 104/2229 and CV8 MkIII 112/2457

Thank you for your help and responses- I did not have my books at hand when I began the list. I had some time yesterday to continue, here's the updated/unfinished work in progress. The points that you mentioned in yellow- I don't have the Genome (yet!)...

BHP is in the Jensen handbook that came with the car.

The rest are from an Autocar road test 7 October 1971
