Auction: Saturday 13th January 2024, 1:00pm

Barons Unit 6 Harbour Close, Cracknore Industrial Park, Marchwood, Southampton. SO40 4AF

That will be very interesting indeed, probably the worst time to auction a car in January - hey ho !

Shame about the shadows on the bodywork pics.
The seats, with just the right level of patina, look very inviting.

I missed the auction on Saturday.

I believe it wasn’t sold according to a search engine

This car has some significant history to it, I know this as I bought some parts from one of the previous owners, he was selling lots of parts before he emigrated to the USA a few years ago now, one of the items I got from him was an Early Mk2 Steering Wheel that I got for Phil Fish for his early Mk2, the guy's Dad used to work at the factory too, anyway he owned this car and it was at GKN for some time when they made the Alloy wheels and this was the test bed/demo car they fitted it too, also the SP Bonnet was tested on this car before the Sp went into production, there was loads more about it that now has slipped my mind, but at the time of talking to him it was on the market for sale (not by him he had sold it previously), but none of this info was in the sales Ad, I spoke to the seller trying to get him to swap the steering wheel with me, he was struggling to get 16k for it at the time but as said with no info about the cars history..had it mentioned it all I'm sure it would have moved on rather quicker than it did.. I didn't mention any of this history/info to the seller as I was seriously thinking of getting the car and moving it on again for a profit, but I decided against it..it was only about 3 years ago I think..maybe Phil will remember as it was when I got him the Early steering wheel, the guy also said that when the factory closed down he was there and was getting all the brochures etc out of the skip, ties, tie-pins etc and was selling them at the time I was dealing with him..I notice the history is still not being mentioned on the Barons advert. Such is life and this circle we all move in..I wonder if the car is mentioned in one of the Genome Books maybe that I don't have? :P

Looks quite tempting in a very appealing colour. Can never understand though why a current MOT with no advisories isn’t put on these sale cars. Creates unnecessary uncertainty. Makes it seem as though it wouldn’t achieve one. Even better an independent 100 point check from a recognised specialist on file. If the car really is fully sorted and there’s nothing left to do it would be a bargain.

We are spoilt with numerous photos on other sales sites which are sadly lacking with some physical auction sites which still seem to assume that potential punters will travel to view/bid.

I am intrigued about the polystyrene block glued to the underside on the bonnet. Presumably designed to operate the under-bonnet light somehow?
