International Weekend 2024 – save the date

I am delighted to share with you that we are planning a rather different and exciting event in the coming year. Working with our sister clubs, international area reps and fellow Jensen enthusiasts in Europe we will hold a combined event on 7-9 June 2024.

Germany’s Black Forest, on the banks of the eponymous lake and we have secured a variety of rooms to suit all tastes. We are planning a diverse program of activities over the weekend in addition to enjoying our fabulous surroundings.

The date chosen (7-9 June 2024) is sandwiched between the weekend close to the Stelvio Pass our Swiss friends are planning and the Le Mans 24 hour endurance event facilitating attendance at 2 or even 3 events with a single channel crossing.

This will be an excellent event, hosted by everyone- the Germans, the UK, the Dutch, the French, Eastern Europe, Scandinavians, and us. I'm really looking forward to this event. It's been a real pleasure working with everyone to plan this. I think it was Szymon who initiated the idea of holding another meet on the Continent, then the JOC put forward that they'd be interested in joining, and it grew from there. Very cool! A real collaboration.

Looks a fantastic event in the making. Congratulations to those involved and I hope it’s a resounding success. Now, this is not meant as a criticism, but I wonder how the JOC will measure success from a UK participant perspective?

My guess is those who regularly take their cars on overseas/longer trips will be keen to participate together with those who can afford such additional expense. But how many UK participants (and what proportion are new to such overseas events) equals success from a JOC (UK) club perspective?

To counter the possibility of question marks over inclusivity and accessibility for some, perhaps the JOC should consider a day event in the UK (perhaps renaming one already planned as a ‘major get together’) for those who want to meet up with fellow home based Jensenites?

I’m not renewing my membership so, by choice, I won’t be benefiting from either! However, for those who are, I hope you enjoy Jensen Owners’ Club events throughout 2024 and the International event in particular.

Sounds a very good point to me, Stuart. Maybe the Jensen 541 70th birthday becomes that event which even I as a curmudgeonly ex-member with 24-hour care commitments might be able drop in with the S-Type if I can get care cover for part of the day

I guess there may be an open day and concours that could also serve as a national event

The concours at Hagley Hall a few years ago was very well attended

This was something that was spoken about back In 2013/4 when Dave Newby was Chairman and then again with Shawn
Myself, Steve Payne plus a few other spoke about in the old forum, but the committee then wasnt interested, but I beleave Zac Marshell had a word with the Germans and this was how Dresden trip in 2017 happened.
Which was one of the best European Events ever, with members coming from Hungry, Finland, Scandinavia and of course Holland and England.
So it's so pleasing that the JOC have finally ran with this idea so congratulations to those involved and I hope it’s a resounding success.
Only working half a day now.

There is discussion on a 2024 concours and how we best address that. Watch this space. Thanks Colin, we touched on this previously, it’s long overdue and from what I am seeing it should be a super club event.

Give the reaction yesterday and today on various social networks I have only one concern - it will be booked out very fast.
Currently we have only secured 60 rooms ( we try to get some more, but it will not be easy ).
So prepare for a first come first serve situation as soon as we send out more details.

Dog friendly - of course Sir, we will arrange it immediately ;-)
Looking forward to meet you on the continent - but expect me a month later in Cornwall. We spend some time there after the 70th 541 meeting.

I am very delighted that we finally will have an "International" outside the UK to show that the JOC is a truly international club.

When we organised our first meeting in Germany in 2007 (Saarburg, some older folks will remember) I had a long discussion with then Chairman David Newby of having the International on the continent. I had the same discussions with Paul Lewis at the 50th anniversary of the C-V8 in 2012 and with Shaun Winfield in Saxony 2017.

16 years of talking, listening, discussing and now we finally decided to do it.

I am very pleased and very happy and I can promise that the org committee from 7 different countries will set up a great event.

Looking forward to seeing the whole bunch again, sun and wine already ordered.
