Best to display a copy of the car’s registration document on the dash.

Sticker for the window or to put on the dash, they won't know what a Swiss registration document looks like anyway :D I hope Google translated correctly...

Good idea. Very professionally looking. I followed your advice (I hope you do not mind) and have made up a variation of the theme. Not as smart looking though.

Very cool (not planning on visiting Italy?) :D Also helps people who don't know what car they're looking at. I parked my car amidst the fast and furious crowd at our local gas station and I saw them reading the label when I was inside the shop. They were too shy to talk to me though, we just gave each other the thumbs up :D

I just received a mail from them (contact@certificat-air.gouv.fr):

I wrote:
How do I get a plaque for our historic vehicle? It is a Jensen C-V8 from 1966, the registration document is attached. Many thanks for the information.

They replied:
Your request was sent by post on 22/05/2023 to the address where the vehicle is registered.
We kindly ask you to wait for the delay which can be up to 30 days.
Until you receive the certificate, you will receive the invoice justifying your order by email to noreply@certificat-air.fr. You can present it in the control case.

If you still have not received the shipment after this period, please contact us with your full address.

Not exactly sure what this means, but it seems as if I may get a plaque for the C-V8? Andi Kreis said the plaque will probably have a skull on it.

That is odd. After a similar request I got a reply from the same source stating: "pas possible", your car is to old.

You have to use your charm when dealing with authorities. Or maybe they changed policy? But I'm not sure what type of plaque I'll be receiving.

Advice from Bernhard Taeschler of the Swiss Historic Vehicle Federation is (for us here in Switzerland) to get the plaques from the Swiss Automobile Clubs (ACS, TCS)- they can organize any of them. Possibly that service is available in other countries also?

These Crit'Air stickers are available only through the official French channels. The European automobile clubs like ADAC, TCS, AA, ANWB etc. cannot supply them or make arrangements for them.
It is not like the stickers you need for motorways in Switzerland, Austria etc.

For anyone coming to the Summer Rally in the Loire there are three convenient alternative bridges across the Seine to avoid Paris and Rouen Crit'Air zones. Two between Paris and Rouen at Vernon and Gaillon and another to the west of Rouen at Rives-en-Seine.

Not so, you can order them through the Automobile Clubs (here at least):

The vignette is available from the French Ministry at www.certificat-air.gouv.fr for around 4 euros or from third-party providers for around 30 euros. Anyone who needs help ordering the Crit'Air vignette or does not have a credit card can order the vignette for CHF 28 (normal price) or CHF 24 (TCS member price) from a TCS contact point. For home delivery, please allow 10 to 15 days.

Felix,
These bureaus do the paperwork in your name to make a quick buck. Hardly the official way. I am surprised that the TCS is also in this game.
However it is equally unlikely that they wil get the Crit'Air sticker for your classic car and I doubt if you will get your money back when they fail to provide.

Chris,
Are there any GPX files for the scenic routes for the piece of mind of SWMBO and to save our marriage?

Not going to comment on that, seems a bit harsh- plus filling out the Crit'Air infos is not super simple (I did not know what Norm our Subaru had, not did I know the CO2 emissions).

Bernard just sent me the following article:

In France, the exemptions for classic cars are not regulated nationally, but per environmental zone. The classification as a classic car must be entered in the vehicle registration document.
As long as you can prove that your vehicle is a classic car, classic cars are allowed to drive in the Paris ZCR zone.
There are no exceptions in the other environmental zones (cities). It is advisable to apply for the responsible pratektur for corresponding journeys.

Great! We're going to Dijon, not Paris. Seems like a big waste of time.
