Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
Three weeks ago I attended the AvD Histo Tour, a 3 day regularity in Germany and Belgium.
30 regularity stages plus 4 race tracks, each nearly an hour.
On Wednesday afternoon we started with the Nürburgring Grand Prix track, Thursday evening it was Spa-Francorchamps, Friday morning Zolder and in the afternoon 4 laps on the Nordschleife of the Ring.
Two classes: electronic and "Sanduhr" (= "hourglass", only mechanical instruments allowed). I always start in the old-fashioned category (except the Rallye Monte Carlo). We had no chance to beat the best electronic teams but we weren't too bad in our category.

Unfortunately in German. But the text is not important. We are the ones in the golden Porsche Targa.

Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
Not quite as exotic or as much fun as Jens' playing with Porsches in Belgium & Germany, I spent the last few weekends painting , then rubbing down, and painting again, then rubbing down again, my Cortina. Will be doing the same this weekend, my arm and shoulder muscles are looking better than Schwartenneger's.
However I did have a break and took the Jensen to the first owner's house, which is only a few miles down the road, in Edgbaston, Birmingham. I would have liked to have put the car on the drive, but as the present house owners were out, could only take a photo of it parked outside on the road.

Your car looks great Kev. It takes a great picture and that must have been a proper high end house back in the sixties.

"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

Stu, the area is one of the most expensive in Birmingham, most have tennis courts in the gardens, or swimming pools, or both. This is one of the smaller houses, and you wouldn't get much change out of about £3m.

Lovely Pic Kev of the Jensen KevMan
What paint are you using on the Cortina Kev..Celluose?..Loooking good man and I know you'll be loving every minute of it(well not the rubbing it down part with an aching arm and finger cramp etc) but the job as a whole you'll be loving it like you do..Good on you Mr Man

Another coat of epoxy and one of Raptor should keep the rust at bay for another 50 years or so.
Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
Good work John, Ive done that a few times and know just how long it takes but it is well worth the effort in the long term and Raptor is a great coating.

John when you've finished that, I don't mind you coming round and doing by Jensen bottom That is hard work but well worth doing, the painting is easy, removing the years if crap is probably the worst job on any car. Sorting the welding out after getting to bare metal isn't that bad.
Grant, I'm doing it in Celly with a good mask, easier to get a good finish as you can work it quite easily once dry, and I value my lungs over 2-pack.

Our club met at the Steckborn hillclimb yesterday. I couldn't find my mobile before dinner, searched the whole car. This morning I saw on the app that the Iphone was in the car. Took me a while to find it It survived the hour long drive home last night well enough, luckily

Fitted a replacement aluminium downflow radiator to my GT. I have the original if anyone needs one. It Has a couple of leaks from the braised joint on the outflow, other wise sound. Easy fix for someone with the correct equipment. Offers + P&P

Re: What did you do with your car today/weekend?
This weekend I have restored a 1930's Rolls Royce. Had to cut a section out of a 1940's Rolls to do it, but am happy with the result. The repair isn't invisible, but it isn't meant to be, it is a sympathetic restoration, to improve the overall look of the vehicle. I am really happy with the paint and colour match. I bought it last weekend, and am now happy to show it, as it will show really well now.
Some of you may know that these pre war models suffer from "metal fatigue" (actual impurities in the casting) which causes the alloy to crumble, this is what has happened here, the chassis is very fragile, so is rare in any condition, let alone in this, what could be described as, good condition, and this colour scheme makes it rarer too. I doubt I will ever come across a red with maroon chassis again, so worth doing the repair. I only collect pre war Dinkys, and then only certain models, the search is the bug, they are so scarce especially complete. I'm a bit of a saddo really, must get out more!!
Donor car on the right; Wing cut from donor; Wing trimmed to size and painted; Rolls looking quite a bit better.

Well, this weekend, my car and I watched Ireland beat South Africa and Wales smash Australia.
We thoroughly enjoyed it.
