Interceptor II - 125/5148
Interceptor II - 125/5148
Hello,
New owner and member. My name is Jon and yesterday I took delivery of my first Interceptor. It is a 1971 MKII in California Sage with Olive interior. I found the car local to me in Denver. That and the color is a huge reason I decided to finally buy an Interceptor.
The car was recently repainted and the front seatbacks have been redone. I think the bumpers are new. It looks great although there are a few issues I need to figure out. Hope some can help out with information. So far, I am having issues opening the fuel door. I have to gently, with force, slide a thin card to pop it open. The hood is also tight and will look to fix it this weekend. The engine starts up strong and sounds great although feels a bit sluggish. Not an issue as I would love to rebuild the engine and find a way to get more power. Nothing crazy, just having fun. I'll only do it if the car needs it. The dealer I bought the car from mentioned they "fixed" some electrical issues and replaced some of the switches on the dash. I am sure I will have to go through a few things to make sure all is good. And that last issue I have at this time is the seatbelts. The driver's side feels locked and I can't extend it. Safety first, so I will take it apart soon and try to fix it. And if required I will replace the belts. On the dash, everything works aside from the clock. I would love to get that fixed soon.
Not to complain too much, but this car is great. It feels great down the road and is very smooth. The steering feels tight and the brakes are there. All the glass is original and in great shape. All the chrome and badges look great. Some original, and I think the bumpers are new. The wheels are original and the tires are new. And this car has captured so much attention. The first person to talk to me on the road asked if it was an Aston Martin. And leaving the gym a couple of guys were standing around the Jensen admiring it. It was nice talking to new people about cars.
I am looking forward to taking my new Jensen out this summer. Car shows, road trips, and anything else I can find.
Cheers

I think the fuel door release button only works with ignition off? Also there is a rod to release fuel door inside the boot , look down by the boot hinge behind the fuel door, jason.

Hi Jon..Lovely..I actually told you yesterday when I saw your car on F.book that you my favorite model out them all there!!, Yes Jason is correct..the fuel flap will only open when the ignition is off and you can access it manually from the boot panel inside right where the Fuel flap is but inside, you will see a slot there and you can pull a release lever.. Congrats on a lovely car in California Sage and get yourself some wheel centers to set those Rostyles right off
You probably don't need an engine build, just a good Carb, ignition system and set up correctly if that doesn't then pull like a train then you could have a slipping gearbox..cheap as chips for a rebuilt out there in the states I would have thought as there are so many of them on many cars of this era ..Have fun my ole fruit..Grant
I cant help myself..Here's my late Mk2>>

Re: My New Interceptor - 125/5148
I love California Sage on an Interceptor - great choice!
There is a manual release for the fuel flap, inside the trunk. On my MK3, it's a pull cable tucked away out of sight. I'm not sure on the MK2.
Hopefully you'll soon have the little gremlins sorted and enjoy the car.
Sluggish might mean it simply needs a good tune-up.

Thanks for the warm welcome and info.
I was looking through a box in the trunk and found a ton of manuals and literature on Jensen's. And I happened to find exactly what I needed, by chance. The previous owner left notes on the covers of different fixes and tips. It will take time to go through everything, but just browsing for a few minutes I got lucky with what I needed.

Grant, your MkII is gorgeous. I would be showing that off all the time, too. A tune-up is a step in the right direction. Start with small, easy changes before going crazy. You're right.
As for the wheels caps. I found them in that box I mentioned above. I was looking to buy some online. I was going through receipts and found a lot of work done on the suspension and brakes. I am guessing the previous owner never cared to put them back.
Along with the caps is a Jensen Interceptor Owners Club grille cap, or radiator cap, or whatever they are called. I am not too sure. I have always seen them but never looked into them much.

Hi Jon,
You've certainly bought the best model (I also have a MkII) and in a great colour.
If you follow this link (https://joc.org.uk/magazines/tech-tips/ clicking on the "Tech Tips" button under "Category") you will be able to download the JOC Southern Area Interceptor Technical Tips Manual (a collection of articles and advice published by the JOC) and also the JIOC Technical Tips book, a must read for all owners. Hopefully both of these will help you with your car. Please note the tips downloads cover two pages and you will need to click on the "2" on the numbers "12" and the bottom left of the first page to access the second page of downloads. It is easily missed.
All the best.
Phil

Jon..It's me again Jon..I noticed something on your car..Whilst I routing around in Jensen Stuff a good while back I found these(at Pauls/Toms if your reading this Peter ) >>>
>> >>
I presumed they must have been fitted to Export Interceptors as I know the export ones didn't have the side repeaters where the wings are stamped out on the Mk2's..and sure enough I think I can see them on your car..I haven't seen them before fitted to an Interceptor..so please can you take a pic of that on the side of your car for me Jon for my important to me records!!
Many thanks Jon.."Grant The Sad'O"

Here is the badge on the side of my car. Just as you said, looks to be in place of side marker.

Perhaps I am wrong and no doubt the appalling Grant will tell me but those wheel discs being blue were for SP's later I think. Should they be red? It's keeping me awake while driving. Kenny38
