“Koç” (which is probably what your plaque said) means “Ram” (like a bighorn sheep) in Turkish…

The “ç” is pronounced like “ch”, so the word is pronounced like “coach”…

Interesting, Rocky.

That would explain the company logo:

“Koç” is also what you can call your buddies when you bump into them at the pub.... Like "Hey Koç (Stud), what have you been doing?", kind of thing.

It's an honorific slang word.

Clearing some old files, I came accross the following. Jean read it out at my inaugaral Dinner Dance.

Poem of a Jensen

The Jensen is our car,
I shall not want another,
It maketh me to lie down in wet places,
It soileth my coat,
It leadeth me in the paths of ridicule,
It leadeth me in many garages,
It prepareth a breakdown for me in the presence of mine enemies,
Yea, though I run down the valleys I am towed up the hills,
I fear much evil whilst it is with me,
Its rods and its sprockets discomfort me,
It anointeth my face with oil,
Its water runneth over,
Surely to goodness the thing won’t follow me all the days of my life,
Or I shall dwell in the house of the poor and insane forever.
Amen.
Jean.

Re 'Just use oil', there was an entity here years ago called the 5000 Club. I don't know if it still exists but to be a member you had to own a car with an engine displacement of 5 litres or more.

Their stated objective was to rid the planet of the evil of fossil fuels by fire.

Very forward thinking.

Our kids would respond with chill, Boomer. To them we are all Boomers- we just had this discussion over lunch. I said Magnolia, I'm Magnolia Gen X, don't be calling me a Magnolia Boomer. Magnolia!

There's a museum in Ankara, in a castle at the top of a hill, with an entire section dedicated to honouring this guy.
