The FF engine is due a rebuild, ref. the two threads on oil pressure and engine heigth.
Parts are ordered (thanks Jörg, Hughes engines responded quickly and well). I have gone for a mild upgrade, focusing on midrange torque. Ally heads and low deck intake. In due time the rebuild will be documented here. Parts listed and progress recorded with photos.

Re: Engine rebuild
No wonder the engine was giving problems. Both oilways and waterways were gunked up to the point of blockage or at best partial blockage.

Re: Engine rebuild
After a bit of bother I am ready to work on it again. But something strange: Having removed the oil pump drive shaft and the lifters the camshaft rotates but will not pull out. Any ideas?

Re: Engine rebuild
Hi Per,
interesting situation. Designwise the direction of the helical gear of the distributor/oil pump drive will push the camshaft backwards (in direction to the tranny). This force is countered by the camshaft sprocket making contact with the front surface of the block. So i guess you either have irregular worn cam bearings (showing a ridge) or you are just facing "oil suction forces" either on the block/sprocket contact area or at the back at the camshaft/cover zone. Normally there should be some play in the cover area but maybe it was misplaced ... A gentle tap on the cam cover will not hurt and you will replace it during the rebuild anyhow. Maybe others have better ideas ...
