As regards a poll ...................the club had never conducted its affairs on that basis and I do not think it is a good idea to start now.

we all know how the last poll/referendum turned out :)

I recommend that people switch to a more friendly means of classic transport, a horse. Always gets a smile going past a bus stop. Anything under a couple of years old in tow gets kids coming up for a stroke. Just don't mention the fleet of support vehicles, Ifor Williams trailers, etc. That is all forgotten as you clip clop by.

I think this is where some would like 'us' all to go - back to a pre-mechanised world, just so long as 'they' don't have to...

Whilst considering off-setting pollution by a tax to plant trees or subsidise horrendous wind (bird free zone) turbines might be considered 'responsible', surely that infers that if you oppose the notion, you are 'irresponsible'. If you want to develop change you have to take people with you, not be adversarial, at least not ideological.

Perhaps reflect on your wisdom in retaining a vehicle, or anything, for 50 years. How much unnecessary production and waste has that saved - probably difficult to calculate. In any case, the disposable nature of may industries, and indeed disposable nature of the human condition is worth looking at first.

People who preserve, repair, reuse, recondition, or god forbid recycle, should be applauded. We can all find efficiencies in our lives, it's just easier to 'get a new one' than persevere with preventative maintenance and care in many cases.

Having and using an old car is like a bit of chocolate after dinner. It's not going to kill you, or anyone else, or the world. It's something nice, and probably well deserved. So stop with this nonsense determining people should apologise, or have to compensate for life pleasures.

Plant a tree in your yard, nurture it, watch it grow and perhaps bear fruit.... and try to be happy.

Matt

I do think cycling is good for the environment, followed by 541's, pre war Jensens, then FFs with their mor even tyre wear. Sorry Mk3 Interceptor owners, you are last but still better than a Tesla. Small particulate emissions. The most harmful types for lungs are rubber from tyres, proportional largely to car weight and tyre width. This type of emission, rubber, persists in the air indefinitely, unlike nox or CO2. It also persists in lungs. Studies found that respiratory problems did not reduce in electric only zones in cities, or with the increase in proportion of electric vehicles. https://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/car ... austs.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;.

Some sensible comments at last. I can now go back to looking at the new Bentley. Less than the price of one of the early FF's on offer at the moment, 4WD, 207mph, smaller engine (just) and slightly better fuel economy than the FF as well!

You say:

Wir fahr'n fahr'n fahr'n auf der Autobahn

Vor uns liegt ein weites Tal
Die Sonne scheint mit Glitzerstrahl

Die Fahrbahn ist ein graues Band
Weisse Streifen, gruener Rand

When the Climate Crackpots come to get you, it won't help if you're driving an electric car.
Xtinction Rebellion even stopped the trains moving!
You peasants will be allowed only a bicycle.
Four wheels bad.
Two wheels good.
