As some of you may know, I've been selling off a lot of my Mk1 spares, during which, differences in some items became apparent.

Such as: fully chromed outer seat rails (I would guess from an eary car before the accountants cried enough); metal radio apertures - one which is Voxson 8 track specific and another slightly different version which can accommodate either a Voxson or Radiomobile 980 push button radio. But my best anorak observation has been different adjusting knob shapes to the centre air vent (and I assume those in the dashboard).

No evidence now, but years ago I partially broke a Mk1 only to find all the ancillary engine components were screwed together with chromed allen key bolts. Never seen another like it and won't forget it as I really struggled to remove the parts I wanted.

The Vignale seat rail adjuster on my Vignale build is a big plastic knob.

I have a chrome rail like that on my early UK build car.

Both have similar vents to the one on the left.

Will check my car, all these bits fascinate me. Still looking for another MK1 with my ash trays, but that's another post.

Re the seat runners, you can buy these new from AH Spares and they are relatively easily modified to make them identical to 541 (all variants) seat runners.

Not often seen are these alternative ashtrays for the MK1. Higher quality and more expensive to make than the more common variety, that's for sure.

From memory Kev the one on the left is for the Voxson 8 track as the cassette housing slides tightly through the aperture. I think someone has elongated the right hand spindle to fit a later set at some point, but I maybe wrong.

The other wider apertured example looks factory to me as the cut is clean and even and there's no rippling to the thin lower section - which is the giveaway when someone has got their hands on it.

Those are the ones in mine, yet to see another car in the flesh with them. As you say they are more expensive, does that increase the value of my car?
When I see a MK1 I've not come across before, I make a bee-line for the ashtrays to see what they look like, that is really sad, and anoraky.


Re: radio panel, I did quite a bit of work on mine to get rid of the rippling at the bottom,with a little hammering and filler before spraying. I thing the problem is people put wind the wing nuts up too much, and end up distorting them, as I would think they were not like that ex factory.

These will be going in my car. They are from 3529, I am using the interior door panels from that car (which was scrapped).
