Folks,

I have an opportunity to buy a dream car of mine...well..a dream badge anyway.

I'm considering a Aston martin DB7 as a stablemate for the Jensen so wanted to see if anyone here has owned one or any opinions, good or bad?

I'm after the V12 Vantage model, and it will be probably a Mk2.
I know the DB9 is a 'better' car as its a 'proper' Gaydon car (rather than a Jag in drag as they say) but I've loved the DB7 ever since it was released.

Anyone owned, driven and/or personal experience of them?

A friend of mine had a DB7 Vantage, he absolutely loved it, until it came to the point of servicing and 4 new tyres, which he seemed to need very frequently. An awesome machine, deep pockets needed to keep though.

Aston parts are crazily expensive and if you go to Main Dealer it will be a £1000 for an oil change.

Well....looks like Im going to need deep pockets then as Ive purchased a stable mate for the Jensen.

Most people have forgotten the Jag in drag comment, I've always loved these cars, and I think they look better than a DB9, which to me looks a bit too short and squat. The DB7 looks classier, and I'm sure they can be looked after quite cheaply, by using independent specialists, and doing some of the work yourself.

Hope you enjoy her, speaking from experience and owning a DB7 Vantage Volante, as mentioned you need to get used to the £1000-£1500 servicing each year... something I have never been totally comfortable with. I use a Porsche specialist as there are no Aston specialist nearby. Make sure you keep a trickle charger on her as it's amazing how quickly the battery drains.

There are quite a few Aston specialists who can maintain a DB7 for considerably less than a main dealer.
Depending on where you are, for example, an engine rebuild at Chicane Aston Martin, south of Slough, will cost thousands less than a main dealer.

They are just such incredible value for money at the moment that you surely can't go wrong buying one now. Am sure you've made a good decision. Looks superb.

Thanks for the compliments. Its a lovely car thats for certain and I did my research before buying. Its one of 19 released for the UK market as a sort-of last hurrah before the DB9 and to celebrate the Queens Jubilee.
I think its true to say there is no such thing as a cheap Aston and you definitely get what you pay for (it IS after all a 17 year old car) BUT, like a Merc or modern Audi, if you go to the local stealer...errr I mean dealer then not many cars are cheap to service so in some ways its no different.
I think its how you approach servicing in general.
If I look though the previous receipts...NGK Iridium spark plugs.
Previous owner paid a dealer to buy the plugs in the UK (at dealer prices) in GBP, ship them over, add our 10% GST and then charge them a lousy exchange rate.
The same plugs are readily available here, off the shelf for less than 1/3rd of the price they paid.

One of the reasons I chose the DB7 is that they are probably the last Aston that you have a fighting chance of a part being used on another (sometimes surprising) vehicle, and can work on it yourself.
Door handles being one...off a Mazda....switch gear - Ford Mondeo....running gear - Jag XKR/XK8 etc..etc.

Anyway...loving the way it delivers all the 400 odd horses and the view as the garage door opens.
