Owch, never happy to hear about unplanned repairs, but after hearing that the drivers door is off, I thought it best to ask a question on the door pins you had made up.
I know that earlier photos of the oversized pins you had made up had didn't seem to show the grooves that align with the oiling passages on the body hinges - by any chance did they end up cutting the grooves (if not, then maybe while the door is off, now may be a good time).
Cheers, Dino

Jensens.........when does it ever end!
Re: My Mk111 Restoration - 136/8620(TBY232L)
Good point Dino. Looking at those now I see a circlip groove at the end as well, to stop the pin rising up. I have never seen a clip fitted though. Has anyone else?Dino Fritz wrote: I know that earlier photos of the oversized pins you had made up had didn't seem to show the grooves that align with the oiling passages on the body hinges - by any chance did they end up cutting the grooves (if not, then maybe while the door is off, now may be a good time).

Thanks Dino, i will pass on your useful comments which i will be discussing with them. Regarding the clip, knowing how challenging it was to fit the pins and hang the doors i would doubt the need for clipsDino Fritz wrote:Owch, never happy to hear about unplanned repairs, but after hearing that the drivers door is off, I thought it best to ask a question on the door pins you had made up.

Yep,
Top pin goes in from the bottom up so the circlip is needed to stop the possibility of it working down!

Exaxctly - mine had the circlips fitted (while I don’t remember the circlips themselves, I do recall using The tool to remove them).

I would be just as well off if you coated the door hinge pins with some good anti seize before inserting them several times before hanging the door. RacerJoe

"Toby" arrived back from Finch's following remedial work to the drivers door paint chip. Autostyl have managed an edge to edge match and i am delighted with the result, it's just a pity it took over six months to complete

My first outing for 2020 after the paint repair to the drivers door. A 25 minute run up and own the Camborne by-pass to blow the cobwebs away, i chose a frame from the trip where i was locked in 2nd and hitting the loud pedal but not quite hitting the rev limiter at 5,800 rpm. The motor Paul Finch built for me is awesome.

Hello Toby,
Nice car, especially like the spoiler, my Mk3 has the same design fitted when Cropredy carried out a restoration in 2008.
regards
David

Thanks David, I inherited the S4 spoiler and the History File records that the previous owner also had it fitted by Cropredy Bridge in 2008.

Thanks Grant, whilst the Torqueflite is fine you need to lock it in 2nd to enjoy what this engine can offer. I am flirting with the idea of converting to the set up recently included in the JOC Mag

My early Christmas present to myself arrived today direct from hoots classic Dresden. It is the hoots one Pro system which Joerg has fully recommended and fitted to his SP and PW. Frank from hoots was a pleasure to deal with and i am looking forward to getting it installed at the earliest opportunity, whilst all my gauges work they all have a reputation for inaccuracy and will be useful to have historical data to monitor the cars performance.
