Rocky from what I can see in the pictures those ball joints look fine. If the ball stud is still round just reuse it, The upper ball joints do not go bad as they are not the load carrying ones. When I did my front end I restored the upper ball joints and reused them. Spent way too much money for parts anyway! That was in 2003.

Who would have thought this was a good place to mount the brake line and retaining hardware?
I was barely able to get the big nut off the suspension for access!
I still would have wished my PO had gone to the trouble of replacing the original brake hose, but....
The 48 year old hoses will now be replaced!
This one is Jensen’s fault, though.....

Good idea Rocky! Make sure after you have the car all assembled and on the ground that the hoses do not contact anything as the wheels turn from side to side. Mine were hitting the edge of the wheel rim at full turn.

Working on my front suspension, thought I’d post a picture of the driver’s side (mostly done).
Starting on the passenger side soon.
Here is my fancy suspension compression tool I fabricated today.
It saved me a tremendous amount of time by now being able to use a ratchet on those spring compression rods. It’s still a heck of a job!
It’s just a bolt, and a 9/16” socket welded into a 6” long
piece of 3/4” square tube. It’s needed to get a ratchet on the nuts running up and down the all-thread.

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
Minor update, but I believe it will be beneficial...
Greasable front sway bar mounts!
Next time I’ll paint them... I didn’t figure I’d be competing with FF 119 - 139!
Anyway, my sway bar mounts didn’t seem as if they would transfer loads from one side to the other. They seemed to be bound up (the clamps were too tight, preventing any rotation of the bar).
So I installed grease fittings (of course providing a channel through the bushing), and I also reduced the “clamping force” on the bar just a bit by adding a washer under both ends of the U-bracket.
I now have a bar that is mounted stiffly, but will rotate on it’s axis. Simple update, only took me an hour.... (I was hoping to do it in 30 min.!)
Looking forward to taking it out for a drive!

Had quite a struggle deciding the color of my calipers.
But if black is good for Fooseway, it’s good enough for me.

Looking good Rocky!
Nice to see smart ideas like the tool and adding grease nipples to the sway bar.

Looking good Rocky! A few pointers. Make sure you rotate the coil spring so the bottom end is sitting at the stop in the lower plate, Also follow my previous recommendations about tightening the control arm pivot shaft nuts to allow the bushings to sit properly. Have you cleaned and restored all of the assembly bolts? The fun continues!

If you have updated the bushes on the anti roll bar what benefits are there to putting a grease nipple ??
Only working half a day now.

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
As I mentioned....
I felt like my anti-roll bar was binding at the clamps, therefore not transferring cornering loads across the suspension....
The bar had new bushings & end-links installed about 6 months ago.
The two mods I made APPEAR to maintain the stiffness of the bar, but allow it to rotate (which will let the bar perform its intended function).
If it improves performance, great!
If there is no change - what have I lost? An hour of my time? Two zerk fittings from my supply box? Two washers?
And of course the occasional wiping off of excess grease around the bar....

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
Interesting idea. I would suggest that a grease gun filled with clear Silicone grease would be safer on the bushings. Petrolium/oil based greases swell and damage many rubber like materials. I use Silicone Oil from Wickes (UK) on door seals, keeps them soft like new without rotting them. Audi now supply silicone grease in rebuild/seal kits. Wickes have stopped selling Silicone oil, and Maplins, my source of Servisol Silicone Grease have gone busto. Any ideas for the grease, which must be cheap to produce industrially would be appreciated.

Re: My New Interceptor - '72 Mk 111, 133-5597
Does anyone know the minimum thickness of the brake rotors on a Mark 111?
Vented.
It’s not listed in the shop manual. I did not see it embossed on the rotor, either.
Thanks.

Hi Rocky
After doing some research on line for new discs it appears that the new thickness is 23 mm and the minimum is 21 mm. Hope this helps!
