That's gorgeous, Taxsaver! I am a big fan of coloured painted wheels, which give a real vintage racer feel to any car to which they are fitted. The question is - what colour? Body colour, a darker version of body colour, cream? No wonder most people plump for silver in the end.

The front indicators are domed instead of flat and, of course, white. Is that personal preference or is there a story behind it?

The rev counter is non standard, but I see you have found a matching rim for what looks like the original speedo. And the silver trim on the rear pillar shows that it was probably two-tone originally (yellow & black - I looked it up!). Just 9 cars - but 11 months - away from my car.

A pity you can't make the Ace Cafe - it looks a real beauty.

Hi Stephen

Love my car. Had it since 1996 though it was garaged for 8 years or so and only recommissioned in June 2011.

Need to do some things during the winter :

New steering wheel (the Bluemel is disintigrating underneath the leather cover). Have opted for a light coloured and period wooden one rather than a modern like for like replacement - have seen then in a 541 and they look good (in my view). And it costs xxx£150 less.

Would like to find and fit an original Jaeger rev counter to match the speedo - but not found one so far. Smiths one fitted at some time previously.

Fuel sender unit issue and so fuel gauge has stopped working

Car was originally black roof with Daco (?) yellow body. You cannot see it in pics but the paint is showing a few GRP stress stars. Also being 2pack over celliose it has some of the mini bubbles in places indicating not prepped 100%. Likely to respray it over winter - same colour as now I think. Apparently there is a retired Rolls Royce sprayer who is a perfectionist and will do an excellent job at a very reasonable cost.

Clean and feed leather interior.

May refurb the leaf springs as the drivers side of car sits 3" lower over back wheels than the passenger side. Possibly tired?

The front indicators are export versions. Would like to replace them with traditional orange - but not urgent or even necessary.

Have a large file containing lots of original letters etc from purchase.

Delivered Jan 1958 by JM, Shipped to South Africa. Arrived 22 Feb 1958 and driven by Rhodesain owner to Bulawayo where it remained till 1987. From 1987 to 1991 it was in South Africa. Shipped to UK in March 1991. I bought in 1996.

Not sure if would be useful to you but I have a JM Price list for the 541 series (excl S) which shows part numbers for all car parts, though not the name of the OEM, and the chassis number ranges for each part. Can copy it (40 pages or so) if useful

Best regards

Steven

(Not sure what Daco yellow is. I thought the colour was primrose?)

Primrose is more my view also. Thought I have seen it described as Daco yellow but maybe that was just a Rhodesian or South African term.

Have one of those Spot on 541R's but not in Yellow!

Sounds like you have a fair bit of history on yours?

Very nice looking car. The color (maroon?) works very well with the curves of the car.

i saw another beautiful combo of maroon and painted wire wheels recently:

....the first pic of the very nice '55 californian roadster with black wires. That's what's gotten me to thinking about painting my rostyles, given the chrome is flaking and corrosion is setting in.

Nice car.

Strange there is one on the market here in South africa at the moment. I do not know who the seller is, but it must have been shipped
around the same time as your car to South Africa.

You can view the add on http://www.junkmail.co.za under motoring. Search for Jensen 541.

Cannot be many left in SA as most have been exported.
