BEWARE STOLEN Jensen Int parts

Post by Peter Rothery »

I bought a job lot of new unused Martin Robey Jensen parts from BCVA Auctions in Bristol on Tuesday 6th August. I went to collect them today 8th August to discover that the high value exhaust parts and seat foams had been stolen...presumably by another punter collecting other items from the same auction yesterday. The area is covered by 8 new CCTV cameras and the footage will be examined and passed to the Police to pay a visit to the thieving b'stds.

I would like to think that no one in the JOC is/was involved but this was hardly an innocent mistake and someone knew exactly what they wanted (they left the support cradles and tail pipe brackets). Whilst the auction may well eventually compensate me for my loss, I would suggest that if anyone is offered the following directly or via any auction site, they may wish to decline the offer and/or report the stolen goods to me, BCVA (0117 325 8324) or the Police.

2X Exhaust silencer boxes
2X Intermediate pipes
2X Tail pipes
2X seat foams

Many thanks.

Very sorry to hear about this. But what I don’t understand, having bought stuff at auctions for 40 years, is that there is always an auction house bod who only releases goods on production of a stamped receipt. Punters can’t just do a lucky dip. On viewing days automobilia is behind a desk and offered for inspection by a bod. If they allowed punters to have a rummage then stuff can get moved in with another lot.

One assumes the missing goods actually arrived at the venue from storage in the first place. Did you see them at viewing?

In any case the auction house is obliged to deliver what is advertised.

They have a dedicated warehouse with shelving marked with each lot number and, you are right, the system is your goods are released upon presentation of a receipt for your purchases. However they have "regulars" who buy pallet loads of assorted detritus online (clothing, boxes of tools, out of date food stuff etc etc) who seem to be able to wheel their trolleys and pallet trucks in and out multiple times. The security has obviously broken down on this occasion but the fact that they have a new CCTV system might suggest that this is not the first time things have gone missing.

The finger of suspicion is currently pointing at someone local to Bristol who either booked other goods out on Wednesday, an employee or one of the under-bidders.

The Martin Robey labels show the Cust account number on the majority of the items as 981150 dated late 2022 or early 2023......just to distinguish them from any other labelled items being sold at the moment.

Update:

An eagle-eyed member of this forum alerted me to these items being offered for sale on ebay.

The auction house investigated the vendor and, red-faced, finally admitted that they had, in error, catalogued the Jensen items twice - individually as Jensen parts and also as an earlier lot comprising a pallet load of miscellaneous auto items. They were therefore legitimately sold for a hammer price of £180 to the ebay vendor "Bits and Bobs Bristol" . I have already been fully compensated by the auction house so it only remains for me to confirm that this ebay seller is legit and if you feel inclined to line his pocket with a massive profit...then feel free to purchase these parts.

At least the mystery is solved, too bad you didn’t get the parts, though…
