Not a job I can do, but a description of a potential cause — and solution — if those symptoms appear on my car.

A solid write-up, and one that will be appreciated by many of us.

Out of interest, what makes the square lock tabs so "silly"?

I can see that they are not so satisfying as a nice wired nut, but I always thought they did the job fairly well.

The “silly” part of them is:

1) They are too stout to be bent with the sharp angles needed to satisfactorily and accurately mate against the caliper casting and the flat of the bolt.

2) Access is quite limited, again, causing difficulty in bending them satisfactorily and accurately against the caliper casting and the flat of the bolt.

3) They didn’t lock my bolts in place!

(Maybe #3 is a bit my fault.)

Maybe they would work better if I had better access to the calipers from below, by having the car way up on a lift.

In honor of Adam Leamy and Denis, I finally finished my battery isolation switch project.

I got this heavy duty disconnect from one of my Pantera buddies, and was able to fabricate a bracket that mounts sturdily to the hood spring on the right side of the engine bay.

The switch is wired between the negative post of the battery, and chassis & engine ground. All connections treated with Thomas & Betts “Kopper-cote”, and all cables are heavy duty welding cable with professionally installed terminals.

As discussed in another thread, this mod is to isolate my battery in the case of longer periods of storage, and to easily remove power from the electrical system when I am doing work on the car. I have already been through a lot of the electrical systems, and I have confidence that the car is not extremely likely to spontaneously combust on starts or operation, but you never know (knock on wood!)

The mod looks better in the car than in my picture!

Hi, Rocky;

Both are great pics. I really liked the first one — lots of windows in that building, but the one stands out. Like your car, really; lots of rides on those Arizona roads, but your Interceptor sits proud.

Installed my “emergency” hood (bonnet) release cable.

I got the 1/16 inch wire rope and clamps for about $15 on eBay. I am making lots of emergency release cables for my various vehicles.

This is the first one I did because it was so easy.

I put insulation on the cable (Tygon tubing) because it is close to the positive terminal of my solenoid.

The emergency cable is zip tied into the side vent so I can access it very easily if ever needed. It’s all pulled up and out of the way, but once extracted it has a pretty straight pull to the latch mechanism.

The trunk (boot) release looks like more of a challenge…

I installed my Compushift Transmission Controller A/B switch.

It’s the tiny pushbutton between the A/F Ratio gauge, and the Vacuum gauge. It lights up blue in “B” configuration.

A = Leisurely Cruise Mode
B = HiPo Shift Mode (Higher RPM Shift Point)

Amazing how long this one took…. Had a 2 week setback when I melted the 8mm switch with my soldering iron…
