Asking for information on my late fathers Jensen Interceptor Mk 2

Post by stevencarr »

Dear Jensen Forum,

I am not a Jensen owners club member however my late father owned a Mk 2 Jensen Interceptor registration FWE 999 J

My father purchased the car crash damaged in 1975 and completed repairs around September 1976.

The car had hit a tree on the driver's side door causing a lot of damage.

At this time we lived in a little village called North Leverton which is about five miles away from Retford in North Nottinghamshire.

My father was a talented engineer. After he repaired the car it was resprayed light metallic blue. I think the original colour was silver although I could be mistaken about this.

He kept the car for about 18 months then sold it.

I have often wondered what happened to this car.

I can see it on the DVLA website but it has no MOT history so I guess it was scrapped.

If anybody has any information I would be grateful to receive it...

Many thanks

Hello and welcome stevencarr,

The DVLA website states it's been untaxed since 1992, so it is possible it has been scrapped, or sitting in someone's shed "awaiting restoration" or possibly exported.

I've checked the Jensen Genome but can't find any Mk2 Interceptor listed with that registration number.
It's possible the number was allocated later, or changed early in its life.
That often happened with people having personalised registrations transferred to a new car when they swapped cars.
Any other details might help, particularly if you could find the chassis number or any old paperwork?

Hi Steve

I believe that FWE 999 J was for sale in 09.2007 in Tyne & Wear for £800 for restoration or parts
Had suffered an under bonnet fire and needed extensive body restoration
Was now Red with a black interior and alloy wheels - not sure if this meant original wheels or Wolfrace etc

Thanks Jim,

I was a little sad reading this its a shame my dads lovely car ended up this way.

I always hoped it was still about and in good condition.

Looks like the car was changed a lot.

I am sure the interior was red leather and it had the mk2 steel wheels and it was light metallic blue.

Out of interest Jim where did you find this information?

Many thanks

Steve

Hi Steve

I believe this information came from an Historical Advert although have not been able to trace that again yet
I will recheck my old magazines from this date to see if i can turn it up again
If i do so, i will post another response

Hi Steve

Have checked with the DVLA, the first Registration date for FWE 999 J was 17.09.70
I have then checked the Jensen Chassis Data book and their were two cars Ex Factory close to this date, both in Silver Grey with a Red interior
Chassis No 123/3907 was Ex Factory 15.09.70
Chassis No 123/3909 was Ex Factory 17.09.70
Neither car is recorded with a Registration Number at that time - not uncommon - although the majority of cars were designated a Registration Number

Un fortunately, i have no subsequent information yet on either of these cars
