CLEAR glass quarter lights (fixed fronts, opening rears)

Post by Mark1Stu »

Clear as opposed to Sundym glass is hard to find now.

Triplex branded and mainly fitted to late MK1 Interceptors/FFs and MK2s. However, according to the mighty referencing work of the late Richard Calver, some MK3s also.

Pictures and further details to follow.

Pictures of handed set of matching clear quarterlight glass.

£35 per item plus delivery. Will split.

Some light scratches - the worst on one rear quarterlight.

Just curious - next to what letter is the dot on the "toughened" print on the glass? Some first class restorers go for that kind of date marked things.

Oooh, I didn’t appreciate that Dion. Just had a look and the dot is under the last ‘E’ of Toughened. Same for all.

Thanks Stu. Minus points for a pre-1968 car owner :D
Only if a meticulous jury notices this of course. Do they actually look for these kind of things?

Hi Dion.

Well, David Newby once noticed that a rear quarterlight glass in my FF was of a different year, so yes!

Had a look on line regarding date coding and stumbled across this: http://www.bobine.nl/turner/01-general- ... ate-codes/

Provisionally sold.

Update: no further correspondence from potential buyer, so back up for sale.

All packaged up ready to post….or it’ll be put back in the loft!

Thank you for posting that glass-dating link, Stuart.

I just looked at some pics of my old windscreen, replaced a few weeks ago. It would appear to have had a fourth-quarter of 1977 date of manufacture, per dot location.

With the old, potentially 46 year-old windscreen, when I drove west on local streets in the afternoon on a sunny day, I was never really troubled by road hazards, traffic signs, local deer, and the like. I find that with the new windscreen, driving west in the afternoon on a sunny day on these same local streets, I'm seeing lots of people who, the moment they see the car, make rude gestures, while fleeing to the sidewalks. Funny, that.
