The mystery box has been opened!

Inside there are two metal plates with a weight on one end.

On each plate there is a contact point.

It would appear that when the box is moved the contacts open/close to break a circuit (for what?!)

No, you're all way off.

There's a reason why we were all very civilised on this forum years ago.

What we see here is a JOC Forum Behaviour Change Tag. Those who fail to comply with JOC rules are required to strap it to part of their anatomy. Immediately following subsequent bad forum behaviour, an electrical signal would send the hammer down at great velocity. The solenoid being of Chrysler origin.

It was a good idea, but the cost of copper and the trip hazard caused by the long cable to the offending keyboard warrior's chair resulted in it being discontinued.

The days of tears in our eyes whilst on the forum are now thankfully long gone.
