Re: Promotional Factory Photos
You can also tell the era by the hooped anti-roll bar which (according to Richard Calvers book) pre-dates chassis 3950.
Also, only 11 cars had fog and spot lights. 3 were white, one was black, one was mine so that narrows down the list to half a dozen. 7 had black interior, 2 had beige, 1 red and 1 blue.
None were "EA" registered.
My guess would be 3621 or 3753, these were the ones with beige interior, more likely the latter as it came out of the factory in April and we can see in the background (behind the fence) that the trees are not bare.

Re: Promotional Factory Photos
Hi Grant,
Not wanting to confuse the situation but my car is a cross-over between the early and late MKII cars, making mine a late-early MK II. Of course some might argue its actually a early-late MKII.
The passengers seat back is fully pleated like an early MKII car (Photo 1), while the drivers seat is partially pleated like the late MK II car.
As this makes my car a very, very, very rare late-early MK II and is probably worth a lot of money. The King of all the MkII's?
Quality control at the Jensen factory in Dec 1969 is not what it should have been. Perhaps it was Christmas party time!
Hope this clarifies things.
Phil

The TAP award has been wrested from Grant's hands and passed onto to the worthy winner, Chris. He even managed to involve horticulture and meteorology.
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

The original registration of 3753, EN2000, is now on a 2017 White Volkswagen.

It would have never left the factory like that!, Yours is an early car, pull up door locks, suicide doors, single vent dash, big steering wheel that hits your beer belly every time you get in and no leaves on the ground behind the fence there!!
Good to hear from as always PhilMan

Thanks Grant, a MK11 masterclass.Grant wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 4:46 pmWatcha EdManEddie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 10:01 am Grant top spotting I was scratching my head how you would have known.
I’m a 4 vent dash late 1970, but my pleats go to the top on my seats. Could they have been incorrectly reupholstered at some point ?
Or would my MK2 not be classed as late (more mid life, a bit like me)
I don’t have pull up locks on the door card.
From what I've picked up over the years there are early ones, late ones and yes ones in middle like you Ed, the early ones as you know had the Mk1 Back Lights, Mk1 rear view mirror with rear screen demist to match, pull up door locks, single Vent Dash, pleats to the top of the seats and a Bigger steering wheel, like our wheel but an inch bigger, they have a slightly longer part between the rim and the last hole in the spoke...then there are the last ones that have the Mk3 back lights, locks in the door cars, Mk3 type rear demist/later rear view mirror, 4 vent dash, the steering wheel like ours, leather trimmed sides of the centre console the pads in the top of the seats and "G" Series Engines, but then all the inbetween ones seem to be a mix of it all, but it does seem that there was a pattern to the changes, for example once they started having the pads in the top of the seats they didn't go back to the full length pleats as the chassis numbers went forward.
I don't know when/chassis numbers these changes stopped and started, but I think there are more clues in the books like the Genome etc which I don't have (still living on a very tight budget here EdMan)
I could see those differences in the car Felix posted and I don't think that 4038 (which is getting on past the middle would have still had the pleats in the seats to the top
Out of my shear nosyness and Mk2 Int filing cabinet Pea Brain >> What is the chassis number of your car please EddieMan?

More pictures from the same shoot and another one, AEA 119H, from a 1970 auto motor sport magazine. All from Zwischengas.comChris_R wrote: ↑Fri Jan 20, 2023 7:47 pm You can also tell the era by the hooped anti-roll bar which (according to Richard Calvers book) pre-dates chassis 3950.
