Indoor framed carcoon / cair-o-port storage system
Hi all,
I have a large sized framed Hamilton Cair-o-port storage chamber (Like a carcoon) for sale, the far more convenient framed version see here -: https://hamiltonclassic.co.uk/collectio ... rt-storage
I seem to remember I paid about £600 for it. I used it for a year or so to keep my FF in before I built my barn. If you’re familiar with the system it’s a ventilated (with low power fans) storage system - the idea is it keeps the environment “controlled” - I had no issues for months on end, and the car came out in exactly the condition it went in.
Everything’s included - will need a good clean / hose down as the floor section is pretty grubby and I’ve mislaid the transformer (£20 from Hamilton classic)
£250 less than half the price of a new one. Collection from near Guildford in Surrey.

You"ll be pleased to know the carcoon wont be used to house a Volvo.
Instead, I intend to use it to hibernate (without getting more rusty) until COVID is over. I can just about lie out in it - but not stand upright...obviously.

These Volvo's.... these were a big part in my early automotive years. They sold very well in the Netherlands. When I got my drivers license, I got myself a Hillman Imp - a type I knew nothing about and had never seen before. A local Volvo specialist offered space to do the necessary repairs myself which was very useful. So in the evenings and weekends I learned a lot there. In return I helped him out with several things. Getting trade cars (all kinds of Volvo) which usually were these Volvo's. He sold hundreds of them in a couple of years and was the known 2nd hand car specialist for these Volvo's in our part of the country. Or I would deliver cars with him. What a great time that was - no yearly MOT inspection then so I drove around in my terminally rotten Imp. Or used the company Citroen 2CV break for getting parts. Or use the old traded-in Saab 96 for a couple of weeks because I could not get a part for my Imp. "Had" to use an old VW Beetle which I hated compared to the peppy Imp. I loved getting cars on a trailer behind the Range Rover. The RR was a pretty expensive car back then and I admired it, promising myself I would have one in the future (I did).
However what these years also did was that I became so used to these big Volvo's I just cannot see them as an interesting classic. I still see these as old bangers. I so well know the noise they make, how they drive, how to weld in rear wheel arches, troubles with the fuel injection, etc etc.

I can understand your position on these old Volvos Dion. I never thought I'd own one because, having driven my father's 240 (who drove many miles a year), it seemed positively barge like. But 3 daughters later, I sold my new car and bought a cheap family car (240) and got hooked - especially on their legendary reliability and build quality. I remember buying some spares off a guy who had an estate axle deep in mud in his front garden. It hadn't moved in years but he was convinced it would start. He found a battery, hooked it up, and it fired up after a long churn on the starter. He then proceeded to spin the rear wheels in the flat rear tyres and eventually extract it from its garden tomb. I was mightily impressed.

I previously owned a lovely early 264GLE which I reluctantly sold (I'd bought a 240GLT estate while the V6 engine in the 264 was being replaced) to a guy from the Netherlands. Within less than a month the car had been converted to LHD and had an LPG kit fitted. You couldnt give 264s away in the UK but (15 years ago) they were, from memory, worth 6-7000 Euros in NL.

Having bought the item from Steve, I belatedly decided to unpack it and set it up in my garage today. Sadly, just laying the frame base out, with the car lift I have in the garage, I have little space for my COVID lockdown (and beyond) body to squeeze past it. Hence it’s up for sale for the price I paid for it plus a new transformer.

Could you please give some indication of the size when all apart; I could certainly find a use for this, but am not certain of the cost moving it from Bristol up into Herts/Cambs area.

Thanks for your interest. The fabric tent can be rolled into a ball. It certainly squashed into the boot of my Volvo (C70) with ease. With most of the poles easily fitting inside the boot as well. 2 or 4 poles from memory were slightly longer necessitating being fitted through the boot ‘ski hatch’.
Happy to measure the longer poles but I have to say I unfortunately have no desire to wrestle and wrap the fabric up if you’re thinking of using a third party to collect it. Sorry.
