Scalextric spares, restoration....and just about everything

Read an article in the current issue of Classic and Sports Car magazine about an ex policeman who has collected virtually every Scalextric model/set over three decades of production.

As a result I did a google search and stumbled across this web-site. What a fantastic resource!

I still have Scalextric with F1 / sports racing cars, had them out 20 years ago on a monthly basis with some friends. Ran a championship fuelled by beer and wine. Sometimes outdoors in the garden after the children had been put to bed. Highly recommended

At your service Grant!! While I have been racing slot cars almost my whole life (69 years) I have very little experience with the plastic sets from back then or the current ones. Never had Scalextric, in Germany the popular brand was (and is again) "Carrera".

At the height of my collection I had a few cars (greately reduced nowadays) but I still have approx. 45m 4-lane tracks. The great thing about the "Universal 1:32" system was, that it used three wires in the track so that you could race four cars on the four tracks and they could change between the tracks. I am not talking about a modern digital system but of analog technology of the 60s and 70s.

I too still have all my slotcars, not from my childhood but started again with a set in my mid 20's. Have got loads of track, so much that when I moved to my present house, 25 years ago, I boarded the loft, carpeted it and set it all up. I had a main straight 15 sections long, with a banked curve at the end, and plenty of power connectors to keep the voltage losses down. I still have a 60's LeMans start and about 30 cars, some of which are Ninco, which are a better quality than Scalextric, and you have to drive them.
Will have to get them out ( all safely stored) and take a photo. Boys and their toys.
