Shelsey Walsh Hill Climb

Post by Kevin Birch »

Had a good day out today at Shelsey Walsh. The Midland Rolls-Royce club organised an afternoon at the hill, and Alan Jones (FF & RR Phantom) kindly asked if my local car club would be interested in joining them. This went down very well with my club, together with a few JOC members, 25 cars arrived to have some fun. It wasn't a race meet, no timings, but you could go up the hill as fast as you liked, with no pressure. Some early Rolls Royces had a go, with a 1933 Rover Sports saloon being the earliest car from my club, so no really breathtaking speeds, but great fun all the same. A good selection of Jensens with Alan's FF, Richards SP, his son's Healey and my MK1 all giving it some up the hill.
The hill is very steep, narrow and you can't really see where you are going, so us rookies were very cautious, but it was very exciting. All had a good day with cream tea to finish, very civilised.
A big thank you to Alan & Chris for inviting my local club, an event which we will definitely be repeating :D

My poor effort but hitting over 70 MPH at the end, 47 seconds was my time. Video link https://youtu.be/c9HOM0-SqZU

Great video. Best watched from 1.00 mark. https://youtu.be/c9HOM0-SqZU?t=61
The scariest bit was when you were turning into the parking after the Finish - I thought you were going over the edge!

Nice Adam, did you use a separate mic in the car? When I mount a camera where you did I get loads of wind noise.

Thank you, I was pleased with how it came out!
I did indeed, I fitted my mic to the bumper mount and aimed it at the exhaust, then just ran the wire up the boot drainage channel to the camera.

Adam had more guts than me, you literally cannot see more than a few meters ahead as the banks are high, and you know somewhere there is a sharp S bend. Good to see him getting the back twitching, and looks a well sorted car. :D
