What's your 'I can't believe I spent that much buying this'.

Post by Mark1Stu »

...or put another way, 'if my partner finds out, I'm done for'.

Here's my most recent purchase (a couple of plastic fog/driving light covers for my Volvo 240). Cost me over a £100. The lights were extra...

If nothing else, at least you know I buy as well as sell parts for eye-watering prices

So whose next??

I bought a set of NOS / NIB Carrillo driving/fog lights for $200. Not too bad of a price, but I don't have a plan to put them on any of my cars.

My downfall is buying engine blocks, and used engine parts. I tell myself I need them as "spares", but I don't believe I will ever just pop in new connecting rods over the weekend on any of my motors!

Back in 1989, I bought a record deck (player), a Linn LP12.
It cost £848.00 and I've never told my better half the price...
Mind you, if I were buying the same model today (yes, they still make it) it would set me back in the order of £2,930.00
I'm still using it over 30 years later, so I reckon it was a good buy :D

I told my lady wife the number plate was an investment......money wasn't discussed. So far, so good.

Having the Interceptor engine and transmission rebuilt.

I brought the car home from the mechanic and the wife said “I see you picked up the car.” I replied “yes” and that was it. A couple of weeks later I got home from work and she said “the Amex statement has arrived” and I said “Oh, yes?”, and that was it. We have never discussed what was on the bill. I will add that the rebuild made all the difference to the car, especially not having to put in a quart of oil every 500 miles.

Philips 22RN712 Cassette player/recorder/FM Stereo Radio with microphone. :) :) :)
Magnificent unit.
Cost £163-00 in 1973 when my income was about £80/week and the car it went into cost less than the radio.
No wife to upset, at age 22.
