Jeff Uren made the Savage Cars in his company called "Race Proved".. he got all the credit for them.. but he merly copied everything from Mike and John Young of SuperSpeed... they were putting the Essex V6 in Cars before even ford did.. ie the Capri,. they also managed to slot them into the Escort Mk1's :P .. Nice pics John.. Thank you for sharing

did you know the originals had pedals to circumvent the 30mph restriction for learners?

Good spot Grant.

He was working on it when we passed.

I did see him on it the week before, he’s just around the corner from me.

Most bikes pedal setups would not work as the cranks and pedals were usually bent from a lack of rider talent and would not go round. I had an SS50 which had plastic pedals originally and I found it hard work keeping your feet on them in the rain, wonderful on a learner bike. We had a race once on pedals and the Puch Maxi was fastest. I could just about pedal my SS and balance it but the pedals being so far apart widthwise coupled with the low gearing made balancing difficult. The most memorable 12 months of my motoring life were spent on that moped. 8)

I thought it was to get around the age 17 for motorbike limit. At age 16 you could ride a moped, defined as having pedals and maximum 49cc (or was it 50cc?). Without pedals it would be a motorbike. The Fizzy was good for 50mph or even close to 60mph downhill with a following wind hunched over the handlebars! There was others too, Fantic and Gilera spring to mind and much rivalry between fans of each.

i took 2 days building it from a few boxes of bits. proudly shown it to my mum and got told "you don't have that and live in this house" less than an hour later i was living at my grandads.

Later Swapped it for a Suzuki ap50 XDM388R and lost my keys on the way home (ignition on left side panel)
Honda did the SS50 4 stroke with high rise exhaust
Shame Kawasaki never did there variant as i always had Kawasaki after my next bike (a kc100)
currently own a 400 eliminator, ZXR400 H1 and the daddy ZZR1100 C1 (ALONG WITH 2 MINT YAMAHA 350 BANSHEE QUADS I IMPORTED A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO)

It was all about the Suzuki AP50 (A50P) at my school. A friend of mine was taking car driving lessons and thought he knew all about clutch control. He'd never ridden a bike before, but "Bring it on!". He jumped on the borrowed Suzuki outside the school doors, brought it up to maximum revs, and let in the clutch with a bang. Luckily, our school had a very long drive because he'd nearly reached the end of it before he fully regained the saddle and was able to reach for the brakes. Not sure if the howling was the engine or him.

Seeing that Fiat 126 in an olive green makes me realise something I'd never realised before - it looks like a miniature early Range-Rover!

I know it sounds crazy, but it has the clamshell bonnet, the sculpted band running down the sides, and even the wheels look similar!
Next week, I explain why a Morris Minor looks like a Ferrari...

Spotted whilst out on today's family walk. Something very cool about a big Citroen.
