Can't be much rust left to cut out now, I dread the time when I start to strip mine down, I'm sure I'll find some real nasties too. Good to see you plodding along and getting it right, It'll be a superb car when done and testament to all your hard work and commitment Tim.
Keep it up.

Thanks Grant and Kev,
I try and amuse myself during the process by doing things like comparing the curves of front and rear screens...
It’s a crazy but wonderful pastime this old car lark!!

Windscreen area repaired and new skirting panels fitted inside rear valance.

That’s just about all areas covered now regarding the metalwork needing attention.

The windscreen area wasn’t that lead’y Grant where as other areas on the car had an abundance of it.
I guess as they were all put together in jigs relying on hand and eye no body was like the next one so lead’y areas can differ.
I only wish that I had the skills to weld,my role is to get things ready and plan for the body shop to do what they do best.
Thanks for your interest, next is some basic preparation toward the paintwork, then the ole beauty comes home and I have a “dabble with my spanner’s”.She will go back for a lick of paint when they have a slot.

A lot of sealing up to be done now which will keep me occupied for a while, got a couple of modifications planned so will stick a couple of pics up when they are done.
Next major jobs will be getting the blue bits that are left on the car down to metal, prime and then contemplate dressing her in a,as Grant says,”lead’y” style.

From the perspective of an older 75 years old any time sheet metal is replaced especially when welded and the car is jacked up the jack stands should be placed under the suspension as if the car is on its tires. Placing the car on its frame can put the car body on a twist and put the newly welded panels under strain or result in mis alignment. This is for the amateur attempting their own new work. For others this may explain to some others possibly why your efforts for perfection went astray. In a number of the photos the welding of new panels some structural and some also cosmetic the jack stands we’re supporting the welding operation by the frame rails. At the factory places the car in a jig to keep all in alignment. The replacement of the bad sheetmetal is important however the end result is also. This statement is for information only. RacerJoe

Refurbed the steering column and replaced the old u/j’s with Aston parts (surprisingly no too expensive).

Smaller than the stock items and sealed so no greasing to worry about,I reckon a little more pleasing to look at?

They're nice Tim.. very neat.. I wish I had known about them.. when I did mine I also removed that rubbishy old plastic bearing holder at the end of the Steering column there at the bulkhead,.. right by all the heat of the manifold, it has loose ball bearings in there that fell all over the floor once I undone it years ago.. I then replaced it with a small needle roller race bearing set up, had to machine up a small housing for it and tack it on to the end of the column.. much nicer jobImage.. have you done anything yourself with that part of the column or is it all Dandy as is TimboLeeny? :P

It’s in a semi-dandy condition Mr Grantchester!
Insulated around the column entry point but brittle old plastic by the manifold is quite rightly a concern.
Will be attempting to clear as much heat from under the bonnet but will now be thinking about a little sleeve of some sort.
Thanks for raising it.

I know the usual Jensen suppliers used to do a replacement bottom bush/bearing, from memory it was a one-piece thing, but, it was always too tight and needed to be reamer-ed out bigger to be a better fit around the swiveling part of the steering column, it was a dangerous thing and I drove a car once that had one fitted that hadn't been reamer-ed out!!Image, wow when I went around the corner I nearly drove into a treeImage, it didn't return through your hands like steering normally doesImage not sure if they are any better nowImage... I didn't really like them.. but whilst clearing my barn the other evening I found one of the roller-race conversions I have done in the past, well it was a used replacement roller bearing.. if you want the number off that bearing I can put my hands on it easily if you want but you would need to machine up a holder for it if your interested anyway Tim.. there's a couple of options there.. let me know if you need more Ok Tim, or of course just do what you have in mind and wack a cover over it to stop the heat getting to it, the reason I got to all this years ago was that mine had up and down movement in the bottom bearing there and I didn't like itImage

Thanks for your kind offer,at this moment I shall make do with the present set up but when everything is fine and dandy and it’s driving I know where to come.

Much Appreciated,cheers.
