JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN ?
JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN ?
Dear Members,
Yesterday while visiting the DMV here in Los Angeles, parked in the parking lot was an older Jaguar.
I believe the car was a two door coupe imported from Europe and someone had chopped the top off
the car and made it into a convertible ?
Anyway, I waited 30 mins for the owner who never returned.
The upholstery was very nicely redone in fine leather with blue piping.
I wondered why Jensen seats were very plain in comparison to a Jaguar and wondered if I could use a similar pattern
on my 75 Interceptor ?
Ideas and sarcastic comments welcome !
Cheers Steven.

At the end of the day, it's your car and if you like they way those seats are done then do it.. it's personal.
Only working half a day now.

Very nice, Richie. Wouldn't they look even better in a nice light colour?

Steven. Interesting pics you have put up. I assume that the Jag is/was a variant of the XJ6, the XJ12C. This was a two door FHC with V12. The roof was usually trimed in black vinyl. So someone has removed the steel roof and made the car into a DHC.. I am pretty impressed with that. The style of trim is very much standard XJ,but has obviously been redone with contrasting piping. Wheels are probably XJS V12 HE.,Not seen this conversion before, but I would not be surprised to hear from the forum further details......Re your car I would leave it as is.

Thanks guys for all your comments !
Of course I will re-do the seats as original, but sadly a little to plain.
Unless one adds the piping, to break up the boring plain look, like this one I saw on line.
Just a thought ?
Cheers Steven.

Re: JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN ?
In my humble opinion, contrasting piping is very 1980s, and looks naff.
The whole point of the Interceptor III interior is sumptuous, high quality leather. Because of the large sections, each hide was hand-picked, to ensure no blemishes. And then beautifully trimmed by Jensen's craftsmen.
Exquisite, high quality is what it was all about. Certainly not plain!

Gotta agree with Keith. Not a fan of the contrasting piping. It looks like a novelty to me, and like most novelties, it's likely to be one that soon wears off.

Re: JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN ?
I also agree with Keith.
I'm not a fan of contrasting piping, even though my MK3 Interceptor has red piping on beige leather.
A previous owner had the piping added on my car, but the seats are still too good to re-do.
Therefore they will stay as they are for the foreseeable future, with the piping...
The only time I think piping can look "OK" is when two close colours are used, such as dark grey on black.

I'm not too keen on the perforated leather used in that Jag as it looks like the cheap perforated leather you get on modern steering wheels.
My Mk2 has reupholstered Mk3 front seats, but they have attempted to put some fluting in the centre panels to tie in with the rear seat.
The seats feel over stuffed though and you sit on them rather than in them!

Good morning from no fires down the street any more Los Angeles !
One of my Interceptors is parked within half a mile of the Santa Clarita fire !
My 62 Buick Convertible is parked half a mile from the Pacific Palisades fire !
It may be time to re think my storage locations lol.
Regarding the seat situation, I agree the piping is a little to garish for a Jensen, less is more.
I was just given by a very kind collector 2 black leather front seats for an interceptor, photos to come later.
These were lying around in his garage for 30 years and so he gave them to me, they need to be cleaned and softened.
Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for all your comments and pray for no more fires !!!
Regards Cheers Steven.

Re: JAGUAR STYLE UPHOLSTERY FOR MY JENSEN , HERE ARE THE TW
Dear Members,
Good morning from LA !
Here are the two seats given to me last week by a kind collector.
I spent 4 hours cleaning them and restoring them and cannot believe how
they turned out !!!
The black leather seats in my MK3 were redone by the previous owner in vinyl horrible, so now I can replace them with these two seats.
The difference in these leather seats and the vinyl ones is night and day, the acquired seats are soft luxurious leather.
Have a great week !
Cheers Steven.
