European meeting 2021/2022
European meeting 2021/2022
I just want to check initial interest to see if it makes sense to take any further actions.
After spectacular success of the last two European events in 2017 in East Germany and in 2018 in Switzerland, would anybody fancy another international meeting, this time even more to the east, i.e. in southwest Poland say in 2021 or 2022 (June or September)?

https://silesia.travel/en-US" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
http://www.krakow.travel/en/" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Pretty high international (CH, EST, GB, GER, PL) turnout at the previous rally in Poland in August 2016 and subsequent positive reviews make me optimistic to repeat such event, but it all depends on people's interest.
My initial ideas are:
- 4-5 days event (Wednesday/Thursday-Sunday)
- a lot of driving and sightseeing, but no orientation rally
- lots of good local food and beverages
- country hotels accommodation
Please share your thoughts with me.

Re: European meeting 2021/2022
I would be interested. Just checked out the drive to your first place on the list, Silesia and we are looking at an eighteen hour drive..so for the four/five day trip we would be looking at maybe a fortnight break in total this to include a couple of days of no driving.
But not beyond the realms is possibilities.

Re: European meeting 2021/2022
Sounds like tremendous good fun. I always like international meetings, We were in Dresden, we nearly always attend the JOC Internationals and I organise the HJGH 5-yearly International (and yearly Autumn weekends, also with many international participants) together with Hans Harting. Always good fun.
We are certainly interested to visit the Polish event depending on the date.
We will have our HJGH International weekend in September 2021. It may be wise to investigate if events can be combined or coordinated in time. There may be Swiss, German, Norwegian and perhaps French events to consider as well.

Re: European meeting 2021/2022
Colin, Kees and Felix, thank you for your contribution. It is encouraging that the first three comments are positive. You can certainly count on additional bottles of Polish vodka in your goodie bags...
In terms of dates, it is absolutely not my goal to compete with other, already planned, events. I did not know about HJGH's plans for September 2021. I have heard earlier rumours about possible rallies in France or Norway, but as far as I know nothing specific has been decided. Only yesterday, shortly after I posted, I learned about the planned trip to Italy in June 2021.
All this makes me think that since we are all convinced that European meetings are a good idea, maybe we should coordinate it somehow at a committee level. Or at least if anyone really plans to organize an event, they should immediately inform Zac, who can then update the event calendar. At the moment, Zac's calendar ends in July 2020.
As for the distance, if we choose Wrocław as a landmark, then for those who were in Saxony in 2017, Wrocław is around 270 km further east (2.5 hours by motorway). And according to Google Maps, distances from other cities are: 350 km from Berlin, 420 km from Vienna, 630 km from Hamburg, 720 km from Munich, 740 km from Frankfurt, 780 km from Copenhagen, 990 km from Zuerich, 1000 km from Amsterdam, 1250 km from Calais, 1290 km from Paris, 1340 km from Tallinn, 1370 km from Lyon...
For people from AT, D, DK, NL or CH, to make it in one day should not be any problem. However, if someone would like to make it even a two-week trip, as Colin mentioned, I'd suggest combining it with visiting Czech Republic (Prague), Austria (Vienna) or further exploring Poland (Kraków).
Depending on interest shown and people's feedback, I'd like to decide to go or no-go within the next 6 months and then set the dates.

If I'm traveling to Poland then it would be Poland I'd like to explore. So more of Poland, it has a great history and there are places that we really should visit if possibletoonkojak wrote: However, if someone would like to make it even a two-week trip, as Colin mentioned, I'd suggest combining or further exploring Poland

No event planned in Germany at that time - full support for a meeting in Poland where ever and whenever needed!
Great initiative, Szymon. (Thumbs up smilie here).

Don't forget a return to Turin in 2021, 5 years on from the 50th anniversary run.

Re: European meeting 2021/2022
It would be a shame if Turin and Poland were the same year, no? And there is also a Norway meet being planned. We also had to wait two or three years with our International until there was a vacant year...

Re: European meeting 2021/2022
I'm interested, as Chris points out the return to Turin is proposed for 2021, so why not do Poland in 2022, Not too much further than Dresden, which was a great weekend. I believe 2021 is the 50th anniversary of the club, so the chances of lots going on that year, so may be difficult to fit in.
