Classic cars on the road

That's quite interesting Richie, not the usual Lamborghini/MG.
I think it's a Leyland Royal Tiger with body by Willowbrook and 9.8 litre Diesel engine. C1955.

Willowbrook were the coach builders (literally!) who made the first Graber designed Alvises before Park Ward took over.

You can tell all that just from a snap of the back?
Am I right in remembering that they were not very good at building Alvises?

Yes it is odd isn’t it? My Dad used to work at the AEC factory in Ironbridge, near Southall, Middlesex (when there was such a county) 1945/55 and I was taken there from time to time to watch bus chassies being built. I suppose that’s where my petrolheadedness came from.

I don’t think Willowbrook’s bodies were problematical it was just that they were too expensive as they were unable to afford the equipment needed to increase the numbers required as the model became more popular. That’s not to say that the design wasn’t problematic in itself: I owned a six year old TE21 in 1972 and rust was breaking out on all four wheel arches and the headlamp surrounds because of condensation in the cavities of the double skinned steel parts of the bodywork. And you thought Interceptors were bad in that respect!

We came in fourth overall and winner of our class (1961-1970).

The last picture is of an odd glass-fibre bodied 'V' engined car which is nice for doing the shopping in I s'pose and the two-tone blue convertible is a lovely 1930 something BMW 328 which looks strangely similar to a 1948 Bristol 400.

You're right...... Red and white propellor badge instead of BMW's blue and white.

Serves me right for being rude about Jens' Scimitar.

EMW stands for Eisenacher Motoren Werke, a former BMW (Bayrische Motoren Werke) factory.

After WWII Eisenach was behind the iron curtain and the factory became EMW. They build the aame cars as prewar therefore the similarity.

In 1953 they were renamed VEB Atomobilwerke Eisenach and started building the famous Wartburg cars.

And Bristol got the BMW patents after WWII, hence another similarity to the BMW 327 and 328.

Sadly, in the three years I have owned the CV-8 I have barely seen another Jensen on the road unless attending a JOC meeting.

The above was taken from another thread where I bemoaned the lack of Jensens
and classic cars on the road. Thinking about it I see quite a few interesting cars
around so I thought I'd stop and take a few photos and let you know as and when.
Anyone can join in.

This was in The car park of the St Ermine's Hotel.
Nothing really special until you look inside.
A delightfully over the top period piece, a LWB Rolls Silver Shadow.
Get the white leather dash board and telephone in the back.
Very reminiscent of The Power Game on TV.
