David Jones - amazing who you meet when driving a Jensen!
I met David Jones' son this afternoon.
So, who is David Jones and why was it amazing to meet his son? Well dear readers, read on and I'll tell you.
Today we were at the Hanworth Classic in Bushy Park in aid of Shooting Star Childrens Hospice charity.
On leaving, while queuing in a long line of cars, to leave the park, a cyclist came alongside my car, the Interceptor, slowed down and said "My dad used to make those".
Quite often we get comments like "My Dad's brother, cousin, uncle, mothers uncle, best mates dad, chemistry teacher, next door neighbour" and so on had one or knew someone that had one but "My dad used to make those" really caught me by surprise!
"Really?" I said. "Who was your dad?"
"David Jones", the cyclist said.
A very short conversation followed between me crawling along in the traffic jam and the cyclist beside me. Apparently, David Jones was a production engineer at Jensen Motors Limited from about 1971 to 1975. This chap on the bike certainly knew the Jensen story of that time saying when his dad was there the company was owned by Kjell Qvale, even pronouncing the name correctly. From Jensen his dad then went to work at Triumph Meridien.
I tried to ask if the cyclist had any memorabilia, photos, other notes or anything related to that time but apparently he hasn't. And with that he cycled off into the distance.

I wonder if David Jones is known to our Nick Maltby?

That's a fantastic chance encounter.
My Dad too was there around that period,he was also a production engineer but heavily involved in the Healey side of things initially, then production planning across the board so no doubt they would have worked together.

Tony, I thought Mike Jones was Chief Engineer, taking over from Kevin Beattie.

Maybe he worked on his own up there and was called Jack Jones?

According to his bio on Ulric's Jensen Museum website Mike Jones left Jensen for the 1st time in 1967 and then came back in 1972 as Chief Engineer. The cyclist told me that his dad, David Jones was at Jensen from 1971 - 1975. Clearly the same surname but definitely not the same person.
