Rebuild gets underway at last.....
Re: Rebuild gets underway at last.....
Eric,
The Edelbrock heads use a specific gasket from Fepro (7325?) and I do not modify them. Some people may enlarge the slots to help coolant flow in the heads, but I have never encountered a problem with over heating. The 7325 is an MLS gasket and if you do modify it you may compromise the gasket by exposing the multi layered construction to coolant . While this topic has been beaten over the head in the Jensen world, I dont know of any serious Mopar engine builder in the states that modifies the gaskets. I have seen slotted gaskets (shim steel) that have been eroded away at the slots due to bad coolant/maintenance.
My .02 on this topic

Thanks Bruce, that very much puts my mind at rest!

Nearly there now. The water pump housing and inlet manifold are back on, having been powder coated. The Jensen valve covers needed machining to fit with the Hughes rockers, but are now fitted too, so it will be on the dyno just after the May holiday. I will try to post a link to a video or two!

I have a hydraulic roller cam in my CV8.
After 5-6.000 miles, the bronce gear that drives the distributor and the oil pump was totally worn out.
I needed a billet alloy timing gear cover like this: https://www.manciniracing.com/mabbialtico.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; to adjust the cam endplay.

Did that wear occur even using a cam button to control end float? I am using this: http://www.manciniracing.com/mararocambua.html" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; with a standard type Milodon pressed steel cover.
Grant,
We were sent the wrong pushrods, getting the correct replacements has caused a delay to ‘Dyno day’!

Re: Rebuild gets underway at last.....
It ran! But not for long! We have hit another snag, namely a dud Crane Cams hydraulic lifter on cylinder four so that has stopped play for now.
I am trying to upload a short vid’ to YouTube but meanwhile here are a couple of stills:

Hi Grant,
No drama really, just a hassle having to buy another pair from the US! Quite obviously a manufacturing or quality control issue but no doubt Crane will say it’s not their problem! Anyway, on the plus side the engine sounded fantastic and nothing leaked out or fell off!

New pair of lifters on the way, meanwhile here's a quick vid' of the first start before we had to stop again! Those gash headers have already started to take on a rather nice 'Jersey cream' colour. Proper film to follow when new lifter installed.......

and a bit of messing around with iMovie, my first attempt, and it shows:

is your oil pressure really 96 psi @2000 rpm ?Jorrocks wrote:New pair of lifters on the way, meanwhile here's a quick vid' of the first start before we had to stop again! Re: Rebuild gets underway at last.....
Eric.. It isn't making any power or torque at 2100 rpm
Look for example at this 440 at 2500rpm >>>
>>> I'm no engine Guru Eric, is it built for just all power and torque at high RPM?

The motor is just running in. They haven't been doing full power runs.
