Wheeler Dealers Interceptor

A few weeks ago I took leave of my senses. Taken with the idea of owning the white Interceptor from season 7 of the show, Wheeler Dealers, I launched headlong into the fray, ebay before me, and waited. For better or worse, richer and more likely poorer, I soon found myself in the drivers seat with a big smile on my face and a slight concern about a knocking sound, drifting steering and pulling brakes. When we finally got the car in the air at Rejen it soon became clear the nine years since the show had not been all that kind. The previous owner was honest and very helpful but until bits started coming off and screw drivers started getting shoved in holes I really didn't know what we had. The upshot? A honest car with a lot going for it AND a lot to be done to it...

Those of you that found the original show worth an hour of your time might be interested to know what the car looks like today and how its future unfolds.

I'll do my best to keep posting to show progress and welcome comments of any kind as the months unfold...

Having felt various driving issues the reality became clear, tyres, brakes, suspension, steering, leaks left, right and centre!

Someone remind me why we do this?

My hope for a simple mechanical 'refresh' have swiftly turned into a full on recommissioning and replacement but progress looks good, unlike the pile of bits on the trolley!

Engine bay is interesting... wire's doing things they shouldn't and some things fitted not even connected!

The answer, we do this because of our love of Jensen Cars
There are those other there that will only ever do what needs doing to keep the car going, but as you are one of those that clearly want your car to be right, this is the only way. When your car is the way you want it and its all present and correct, you are safe in the knowledge of knowing this fact and the pide you will have in telling all your new friends at the petrol station, supermarket, or anywhere else you might park because these cars always attract.

I love the fencing wire holding the valve open (shut?).

A bush fix after my own heart - I did the same thing as a temporary measure to keep the heater valve shut on my GT; the alternative was to slowly cook. I replaced the vacuum operated valve with a simple cable one not long ago.

And refurbished the dash panels while I was at it.

And ....

It's only time, money, health and sanity. Am sure you have plenty (!)

Thanks colin7673 - nail on the head I think... I've driven a bunch of classics over the years and still own a few but, there's something about the Jensen. It'll be back on the road, albeit with much still to do next week, and I can't wait

ChrisL, I guess you find something then find something else! The last thing you want is heat under that amazing Aussie sun! Nice to hear from you.
