Did 1500 miles so far and now waiting for the boat to the Netherlands ( 500 more to go than )
Thanks to Andy and Kevin for changing the fuel sender, Rejen for fixing the blowing manifold and the new gear box mount and Brige Classic Cars for getting the timing right.
Was a pleasant trip from Hull to Harwich with a little detour to the Spring Break Weekend in Wales.

Arrived home without problems - only the oil consumption makes me head scratching.
2 Gallons on 2100 miles - definitely too much. No leak, no oil under the car, no blue smoke! No idea what’s wrong.

Joerg, that sounds a bit odd. Presume no obvious signs of a leak in the engine bay? When I fist got my car and went to Wales for the Spring Break, Helen & David Newby were behind me and when we stopped said the car looked good but smelt a bit oily. No obvious oil leak but several weeks or months later I erupted on the A34 with a plume of smoke behind me. No loss of oil pressure but obviously stopped and rang my friend the breakdown man. Turned out I had been running with an incredibly small microscopic split in the oil feed pipe that had been spaying a mist out for a long long time and eventually let go. Nothing to see until it let go. As a mist into the engine bay it just burnt off leaving no trace. Being in the car I didn't smell it at the time until I became a Red Arrow with smoke on when it gave up the ghost. Mind you it didn't actually rupture just moved from a pin prick in the pipe to a needle hole.

For me it was an eyeopener when i changed the plugs. Some of them extremely oily. Subjectively the engine ran nice and there was no obvious smoke visible when driving - even not for following cars - BUT some valve stem seals were extremely brittle and already split. Exchanging the valve stem seals with the heads in situ was much easier than i thought.

Sorry to hear that Joerg and hope you find the cause. I would like to point out that you were following me but I wasn't conscious of any blue smoke! There certainly wasn't any oil on the immaculate car park when we left.
