Another 4000Km African Road Trip with Interceptor Mk3

Post by Philip Lochner »

Departing tomorrow, another nice road trip in my '74 over 10 days. From Pretoria to Knysna - Barrydale - Prince Albert and then home again. Attending the Knysna auto show on 28 April.

A friend is coming with in his 65 4.2 E-type - which I have prepared for this trip. Yep, if his car gives trouble, I'm in $#1T. I very much intend for us to have a fuel consumption "competition". His 4.2 running at 3000rpm against my 7.2 running at 2000rpm. Sounds like a fair fight yes? We will compete on overall consumption and also specific consumption (overall divided by engine capacity).

Will post pics whenever possible.
Best regards
Philip

What a wonderful trip to make, even more so with the Interceptor (instead of a boring hire car which would be the only possible way for me). Looking very much forward to your trip pictures!

Philip,

Have a great road trip, sounds wonderful.
I’ll be interested to see your findings on fuel consumption on the Interceptor vs the E-Type.
I think overall consumption will be comparable, from personal experience and on a run like that, I think you’ll see high teens.
Good luck.

Thanks everybody!

My friend believes that he can not drive more than 500km per day in the E, so I've had to split it up into shorter legs.

For those who would like to see on google maps where we will be going:

Today we drive from Pretoria to Christiana https://tinyurl.com/y3m47guv
Tomorrow from Christiana to Kambro https://tinyurl.com/y4czx7qe
Friday Kambro to Herold https://tinyurl.com/y69xyzd2
Saturday Herold to Knysna https://tinyurl.com/y58fygx4
Sunday @ Knysna Motor Show
Monday Knysna to Barrydale https://tinyurl.com/y5wh6vh5
Tuesday Barrydale to Prince Albert https://tinyurl.com/yyl7j2s3
Wednesday PRince Albert to Kambro https://tinyurl.com/y6fat2zy
Thursday Kambro to Christiana https://tinyurl.com/y4czx7qe
Friday home https://tinyurl.com/y3m47guv

Tell your friend to get a proper car like an Interceptor. Over 850km in a day is easy going in one. How do I know this? I've done it!

E-type was left at home. Fan belt failed after only 50 km. Alternator conversion (not done by me) not aligned properly.
