International in Norway in 2020

Post by Per »

All, after several rounds og discussions in Norway and a few conversations with Colin in the UK se have decided that 2020 is a more viable time for an internasjonal in Norway.

We would like your input on a few topics. First the places you want to see. Some of you came here in 2011. Are there any places you want to revisit, possibly spending a few days? Regarding new places, which area do you want to concentrate on? E. g. southern Norway or Northern Norway?

For those of you who are going for the first time, do you specifically want to visit western Norway with Bergen city and the fjords?

Regarding the time of year we recommend avoiding the school holliday June 23rd to August 15th. So May 25th to June 23rd or August 15th to September 15th (the latter usually being warm and the former sometimes a bit cooler) is what we advice.

Getting to Norway from the Continent is very relaxed taking the ferry from Kiel to Oslo. Taking into account fuel and sustenance driving all the way or taking the short ferry hop from Hirtshals to Brevik is not much cheaper, at least not for the V8 powered cars.

UK is a challenge with either a longish drive via the channel or sending the car as freight via Immingham/Brevik and flying to Torp airport. Still nothing definitive on a ferry between Bergen and the UK.

For those who can spend two weeks in all driving to Bergen, taking the Hurtigrute to northern Norway and driving back is a fantastic trip. We (Kristin and I) will be interested in doing that.

Thus the final question for now is how many days you want to spend?

Also very interested, but I‘m not sure if I’ll be able to find the time! 3 or 4 days, plusminus? Per, did you check the microfilms concerning the V8?

It's doesn't seem too bad from the UK.
Ferry from Harwich to Hook of Holland or Hull to Rotterdam, then it's less than 380 miles drive to Kiel or just under 650 miles to Hirtshals and ferry from either to Oslo.

Very tempting. August-September would probably be best for us. From the NL through Germany, Denmark, bridge or ferry to Sweden and then along the coast to Norway or from Kiel Germany direct to Norway. It also depends on where we will start in Norway. It will take a few days but it should be a very enjoyable trip.
Last summer I travelled though Norway, Sweden, Denmark and Northern Germany repatriating a car. As long as you keep out of the woods (very boring, you don´t see anything) it is very pleasant and not much traffic about.
