car was gold originally, yes had stainless copies made for inner arch covers, as you know there always screwed in so just drilled to existing holes and used stainless screws and washers, upol satin black is what i used but it all had a coating of etch primer first

All done and ready to go. Fitted new stainless sill covers. These repro parts take some fitting and a few alterations incl the replacement door step covers. Certainly looking sharp. Car will be back in soon for rear end to be refurbed like ive done with the front also a full stainless exhaust system

I picked up my Jensen Interceptor today and drove it 40 miles to Bridgnorth and back. The car handles like a new car and Jim Smith must have tuned it so that the car feels eager to go. The car also handles and drives like a modern day car thanks to all the front suspension being renewed and tightened up. The Fosseway big brakes also improve the braking performance requiring very little pressure and the car also brakes nicely in a straight line.
The problem is that the rear end of the car looks a poor relation to the front, so Jim Smith is taking the car back in, in July and will strip out the rear axle and refurbish the rear end to the same standard as the front. I hope that all this work will preserve the car for years to come and whilst I am currently the owner I only consider myself as the custodian for now.
In the meantime, I intend using the car for days out when this dreary weather ends. My wife thinks I’m nuts for wanting to enjoy driving a car that’s 45 years old when I also have a new Range Rover on the drive. She has no soul!! Lol

Chris, that looks a fantastic car, get out and enjoy it forget the Rangerover. I'm trying to get a few cars together on 19th May in Dartmouth Park west Brom, for their open day, and we'd love to see it. It is a very informal, just Jensen built cars, usually only half a dozen or so, from 10:30 ish until 15:00 ish. Just around the corner from where they were built, so opportunity to get some piccies. Send me a message if you're able to come.

Thanks KEVIN, I’m stripping out the rear brake calipers to get them refurbished and so it’s doubtful I’ll have them back in time for the event in West Bromwich. There will be other occasions though where I will bring the car along and hopefully by then, the rear end of the car will have been refurbished too.

Hi Zac,
Unfortunately not, but I will try to attend future JOC events once I’ve had the rear end of the car refurbished and detailed like the front.

However, I did see this months JOC article about future concourse events and feel its a shame that there are fewer entrants each year especially now that Interceptors are achieving much higher values similar to E Type Jaguars. Previously, it may have been a lost cause to refurbish an Interceptor to a high standard because you might never recover the investment. Times change, and I think these hand made cars are really coming into their own, particularly when you drive a Jensen and then drive an E Type. It’s like the difference between day and night, the Jensen Interceptor is a Grand Tourer able to cover long distances in modern day comfort, which is completely unlike the E Type, where your glad to get out of the thing and take a break!!

Hi all,
My old girls new owner Chris, is a real enthusiast and it’s fitting that her latest guardian cares for her as much as I did for eleven years.One correction mentioned earlier.She left Jensen Motors in her original colour,Mustard,not gold.See Dave & Helen Newby’s Mustard Healey for an example.She also had a black vinyl roof.
I was led to believe that she was the last Interceptor to be refurbished at Jensen Cars Ltd around 1989/90 and the work they carried out has worn well.
I look forward to catching up with Chris and The Beast very soon.

Yes it looked like mustard under that wheel arch, i remember the car fresh from its rebuild probably 92-3 at tatton park classic do, it looked super back then as there were not many in that condition, back then, i think it would look equally as nice if it were that condition but mustard still/again

hi chaps, been busy on ohu1m for past few weeks, as you see whole rear end refurbed, floor pans completely sraped off and re coated, new springs, full new stainless exhaust, just about every nut and bolt replaced,rear calipers refurbed, lots been powder coated. lots of hours gone into this now but a great result and a super condition car

Looking really good. Where do you get the silver heat insulation you mention. Is it:
8mm Nitrile foam glued with "ALPHA High Heat Contact Adhesive" and overlaid with "Shieldtex 780"?
Yours looks very neat, and I wondered if you had used thinner foam?

thanks john, shieldtex 780 which comes self adhesive, some areas i didnt use the foam as the shieldtex is very thick but also makes it a neater job as you noticed. using the foam and shieldtex down by the manifolds makes it way to close to the manifolds. using the self adhesive 780 also saves you getting high off the glue you would normally use !!
