That's looking great Eddie, what did you do with your inlet manifold, is it new or blasted and painted? Haven't made a decision on mine yet, but yours looks bloody lovely.

Kev, I have gone for a new Edlebrock performa inlet manifold, so a bit of a cheat in a way. But I have a blast cabinet at work and think I could have got good results with my existing one. So that’s off the car stored in my garage and one day I will get round to cleaning it up. Hope yours is coming on well Kev.
Interestingly; what looks like a leather gasket to me between the carb and inlet manifold had a huge split in it, between 4-5mm and the gasket looked about 3mm thick. It looks like it has been like it for ages.
Anyway nearly finished. A couple of mistakes on the way, one being lifting the engine with the torque converter attached. The other, marking the distributor, removing it, then rotating the engine to change timing chain.
Apart from that I have learnt a lot and know the car more than ever.

Well done mate, at least the engine bay and its bits and pieces are not strange places anymore, and you will have a better understanding of how it all interacts and works. This is the best way to learn, just get stuck in, they are only just nuts and bolts, be prepared to make mistakes, and ask, you'll always get the help you need. Its the way I started 40 years ago on cars.
I'll blast my manifold, and see what it comes up like. Will hopefully start on the engine rebuild this week, have nearly got the bay back together now, and estimate a couple of days to rebuild the engine,.

For the first time since November CEA burst into life again.
I dropped her off to Jim at J&S automotive (Challenger on the forum) on Monday for him to look over my work, fit the exhaust, inlet manifold modifying the existing brackets to fit, sort the timing with a new distributor cap, rotor arm and pick up plate, fill up with fluids and commission. Among other jobs to finish off.
I am very pleased I went down this route. One thing I was definitely unaware of was the fact that the engine didn’t appear to have a bush holding the oil pump drive gear in. When I had the engine on my stand and rotated it upside down the drive gear dropped out of the engine. I looked at it and assumed gravity held it in. Luckily with expert eyes on the job Jim showed me the wear on my drive and sourced the new drive and bush.
The car sounds a lot better than before and feels a lot more responsive, I always thought it was a good drive but now Dunc has breathed on the transmission and Jim has breathed on the engine she is a completely different animal.
There are still more jobs to do in the bay which Jim has pointed me in the right direction with, but at the moment all I want to do is drive
It’s all still ongoing but one day I will get there

Nice one Eddie>> have one of these>>... it looks great... get the Aircon pump vapor blasted Ed.. they come out so cool ... I've had one of mine done and couldn't bring myself to put it back on it was so nice... so I used it to hold the bed up when bed leg broke off

Ok Ed... you're special... so I have gone upstairs and pulled it out from the corner of the bed where it was being used as a support.. but I couldn't bring myself to un-wrap it as the moisture may get to it and oxidize it some what.. but here it is anyway although you can't quite see the finish on it >>>

Well done Eddie, looking forward to inspecting it, I'm still way off, work and flu getting in the way. Managed to get the engine block on the stand today, so will start rebuilding it. Hope it all turns out as nice as yours.

Around 100 shake down miles on her now and running sweet as a nut.
She is running a lot cooler now with the new intake and ceramic coated headers.
Up on axle stands this weekend for a lot of checking the torque on bolts. + checking for any leaks.
It’s all looking good so far

This is Vapor blast finish Ed.. it sort of looks silver spray TBH but it alot gives the very original finish look, the only other option is polishing that never really looks that great unless you have a good polishing man that can get in all the nooks and cranny's here you go sport >>
