"Chassis number INT88.5347 - we are reliably informed that this is the last example of the chassis series of only 88 examples to be built and was subsequently registered on August 13th 1957 to Jensen Motors Ltd, Carters Green, West Bromwich.
The Jensen archivist Richard Calver informs us that the car was quite possibly used by one of the Jensen brothers as personal transport as it came on the companies books as a Demonstration Vehicle / Director's Car.
This is the only Interceptor known to have been fitted, like the early examples of the 541R with the twin carburettor 3993cc engine from the Austin DS7 Princess IV, early disc brakes along with automatic transmission, most likely for evaluation of the disc brakes and automatic gearbox as a possible future option.
The car is a Deluxe model and was originally registered as REA 581, with engine 1D13084M and body 5357 leaving the factory in Corfe Grey with Green leather upholstery. From the paperwork we can see that the car was disposed of by Jensen during May 1958 and went to a Naval Officer in Sussex before on January 1st 1959 being registered to Charles Attwood & Son Ltd in Wolverhampton who at the time appear to have owned the renowned Cyril Williams Motors"

I wonder if the naval officer owner was commander P. Davis, who was the first owner of the prototype 541 ? (He was also in Sussex.)
Are there more dials on the dashboard than normal ?

Dashboard looks more 541 than early Interceptor to me.
Super interesting car in that combination of engine, brakes and gearbox all in one of the most beautiful cars of that era.

Hi Joerg,
I see you also have the anti-clockwise rotating rev-counter. Same as my PW . A bit confusing when you are used to more modern ones, or even the 541.
Years ago I had the good fortune to drive a convertible 4 litre Interceptor which at the time belonged to Cdr. Jimmy Boswell in Norwich..
A very comfortable driving position and a very steady car and being one of the convertibles, no scuttle shake was noticed.
That particular car was equipped with a set of hydraulic lift jacks for each road wheel, which had been removed from a scrap Austin Princess.

This is a pic of the dash of my (former) lhd. early Interceptor. An extra gauge is fitted to the glovebox lid, cannot remember what it was though. The second pic shows the ex Derek Chapman car and the third an early model in the US. These are differences in each model year, or so it seems. In particular the vent and heater controls.

I saw this car yesterday at the NEC and I do hope that the person that buys it keeps that bodywork how it is. It's so original it would be a shame to restore the bodywork, simply restoring all the running gear would seem more appropriate.
