29.03.1962, m/s Kassel took 29 Volvo P1800, produced in the Jensen factory in addition to scotch whisky and metal pipes. Then it collided with other ship, so cargo hold with Volvos was flooded with cocktail of whisky and salt water.
After arriving to dry dock, inspection from Jensen plant arrived to valuate amount of damage.
Eleven cars were considered as non-damaged (!), so it was delivered to customers, without any notification.
Four cars were so damaged as it moved to Volvo plant and scrapped.
All others were sold "as is" particularly to Volvo stuff.

Four of the cars were scrapped. That means that at least two of the cars in the picture above were NOT scrapped!
"Now that chassis number is particularly interesting ‘cos it’s the one after the one before, which is the one after mine, not many people know that"

There were 29 Volvo P1800 cars involved in this shipping accident. The cars were being shipped bound for Houston, Texas.
18 of the cars were in stored in Cargo Hold Number One of the freighter "Kessel", along with a consignment of Scotch Whisky.
Of these 4 were so badly damaged they were scrapped by Volvo. The remainder although damaged and whisky infused were sold "as found" to Volvo staff on the basis they were not to be resold....
11 cars were undamaged as they were in a second hold of the vessel.
