Thankyou Tim & Grant for the nice comments on the work being done.

My personal involvement has only been the donkey work of stripping the car out in preparation for the experts.

The repairs are being carried out by some true Artisans working under the name of Westgate Classic Cars,Aldridge,Walsall.

The outer sills you have been debating earlier on are now in position so here are a couple of pics:-

Passenger side floors/toebox/footwell & sills now cut out.

Inner sill being positioned prior to permanent fixing.

Hopefully the following pics show a few more different shots compared to those posted for the drivers side.

"the proof of the pudding is in the eating" so the saying goes.

A couple of pics took recently when undersealing the replacement floors & sills.

The car is up in the air with all its weight taken onto the lift through the sills, would not of attempted that prior to the work being done!

Shoddy repairs happen everywhere just like like in plumbing carpentry Denistry etc. I was called in to inspect a rust repair on a 280 SL. The underside was undercoated. I had a pick hammer and put it through the cardboard floor. There are few really qualified people in proper restoration. Next the source of the problem needs to be addressed then rust preventative in the enclosed boxed areas epoxy on the bare metal and body wax for additional protection. Best to never need this obviously too late too often. Racer Joe

Engine removed to give some elbow room, slowly ripping out all associated bits and bobs.

Got a space booked back at the bodyshop, this years refurb will be wings inner & outer, wing top air ducts then a long overdue tidy up of the engine and bay back at home.

Heaven knows what the engine will reveal after 45 years but i am weirdly excited though.

Will try and get a few decent pics as work progresses and post accordingly.

Just pulled the top of mine after 45 years too

The valve stem seals felt like Bakelite !

Good luck with cleaning everything up..

Will you update you on what I find.

Tim, looking forward to seeing the work done, in the flesh, after seeing the sill work at Dartmouth Park. I'm sure it will be of the same high standard.
For those that aren't aware, Tim is restoring over the winter period, and then using and enjoying the car in the summer. He will admit himself that it is probably 3 or even 4 years away from a respray, is not looking particularly pretty at the moment, and will look worse once the rest of the bodywork is done in stages. I think this is probably the best way to do it, as lots of time off the road can let despondency set in, which leads to so many failed restorations.

Top work being done, it should be one of the best Interceptors around when done, and a top bloke too.

Your Bang on the money there Kev... the welding that people get involved with is just too much, it just goes on for too long and then the Buzz goes in the end and there it sits, lets face it.. it takes a good long weekend to just clean the bloody things properly, ....Top work there Tim
I hope your happy with your new Cortina Shell Kev :P ... wishing you well as always  ... Grant :P

Thank you for those very kind words gents.

It's just a case of practicality for me - don't have the time, space or resources to go at it "full on" and complete everything in 1 go.

Interesting perspective from Kev re- doing too much at once, then hit a snag and with the whole thing in pieces everything can seem very offputting. Some wisdom in your thinking!

I had some nice comments this time last year when the floors/sills/toe boxes and air collector boxes were done so thought it would be good to carry on this year with a little more explanation.

When planning the repairs my thoughts were that if you structure the body refurb along the lines of the original build process you can only be heading in the right direction.

Interceptor bodies were constructed basically in a 3 step system, chassis shop then into the body shop through 2 jigs then onto the line.

Last years repairs were centred on the parts of the car constructed in the chassis shop, this year will see repairs aimed at areas built in the first jig in the body shop.

Hopefully next year will see repairs carried out in areas relating to the second body shop jig,the following year will see a "lick of paint" being applied to it all.

Here are a few pics detailing work so far-hope you find it useful or interesting.
