London Classic Car Show Excel 18-21 Feb 2016

Post by NormanP »

Just got a mailshot: “As a central part of The London Classic Car Show's massive expansion for our second year, we are excited to announce the arrival of Car Club Square. Located in a dedicated hall adjoining the main exhibition area, Car Club Square will be filled with the country’s best single-marque classic car clubs, alongside dozens of mid-range dealers and affordable classics. Clubs already confirmed include Porsche Club Great Britain, Aston Martin Owners Club, BMW Car Club, Mercedes-Benz Owners Club and Jensen Owners Club with many more to be confirmed shortly.”
Not in the events diary yet so I guess this is fairly recent? It’s also not yet on the LCC site.

Norman

Very recent, Lewi told me, and presumably others, last night and emailed details today. Having just found out about this all I can say is that it will be 3 cars, that is what Excel are limiting us to, and they will almost certainly be Interceptors and an FF, or the other way around, but nothing has been decided yet.

Yes, given the 50th anniversary and the space limitations that makes sense to me. Nice to see JOC up there with the "big names"!

Details of the discount offered to JOC members has been moved to the members only area here:
http://www.joc.org.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic. ... 67&t=22463

The JOC will have a three car stand and in addition we have been invited to show a fourth car on the Grand Avenue where cars are actually driven within the show hall.

Update:

Now five cars plus one on the 'Grand Avenue' (now a double stand but unless we go and sit on somebody else's stand when we want a breather there is no way we can fit six cars!)

They still don't seem to be showing JOC as a car club..only Porsche and Mercedes here: http://www.thelondonclassiccarshow.co.u ... y/car-club" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; (perhaps they put their towels on the spaces early :D )

More likely because you have pay through the nose for a listing, it was to be several hundred pounds just to add a logo to the free listing in the show guide.

Thanks for the clarification John. Blimey. Not even a listing on the web site, even sans logo. I know they have to make money, but that strikes me as alienating the very people/clubs they should be trying to get for long term support. But what do I know :(

My SP should be there as well on the stand of an insurance brokerage run by a friend of mine.

We made it, 8 am at Excel because we're at the back and they fill the hall from the front, but everyone was on time (and there before me and I got there before 8!)

Cars are Helen Newby's FF11; Chris Gale's 541 Deluxe, Nigel McMorrin's Interceptor 1, Tim Clark's SP and Tim's Interceptor S4 and bringing up the rear my C-V8 Mk111.

Sorry about the sideways photos, they are the right way up on my laptop. (images no longer drunk - Zac)

Good to see we ended up with a mix of six cars and various models rather than the three Interceptors/FF only first mooted. See you all tomorrow.

A chap named Mike Harris approached me on the stand today. He bought a brand new FF from Jensen, he couldn't recall the exact year but recalls that he paid £6,200 for it. He describes it as "lime green". He showed me a photo on his phone. One frosty Sunday morning in Liverpool he and his friend set off for a game of golf. His friend had a Mustang and they began racing. Mike lost control of the FF, flipped it, travelled 200ft on the roof and took out a lamppost. The car was very badly damaged and written off by the insurance company. Mike has taken my e-mail address and undertaken to send the photo to me. He currently runs a Ferrari and a McLaren, hard life eh?
