Somewhere in Spain. I'm sure "refresca mejor" is Spanish.
Maybe Costa Blanca, Costa del Sol or Costa Brava?

Coca Cola refresca major is indeed Spanish and it was the Coca Cola slogan in 1959

1959 - Coca-Cola refresca mejor (Coca-Cola Refreshes You Best)

Picture taken a few years later than 1959 though. A few cars behind the 541 is a BMC 1100 type car not launched until August 1962.

The website tags the picture as:
Jensen 541 R Saloon, Opel Rekord P1, Sitges
So it is in Spain.
Auction for the postcard ends at 20-00 tonight.

Google Maps shows it as broadly similar today. The infill hotels around the Hotel Calipolis haven't maintained the same level of architecture. The silver cylinder in the pavement seems to be a postbox and is now painted yellow, and nowadays you are in prime position for the gay beach at Platja de la Bassa Rodona.

Now, has anyone any comments on the car? Sitges is fairly close to the French border, which could explain the yellow headlights. It is fairly distinctive as it has just one spotlight.

I seem to remember it being a legal requirement to fit either yellow bulbs or yellow filters to English cars before they drove through France so the yellow lights could simply mean that the owner drove down through France from a Channel port to get there.

As it looks today (as close as I can get it from google):

541 in Spain

Post by Richard Calver »

There were 32 of the 541R models in Deep Carriage Green and one in Tartan Green. I cannot see if the licence plate is numbers then letters or the other way around, let alone make out the digits. That would be the best way to identify it. I'm not even sure it is an R and not the earlier model. There were another 54 of the 541 in DCG, plus one in BRG and one in Tartan Green. Anyone got a good estimate of the registration number?

As far as I can tell from the image the bonnet is smooth indicating the early model 541?

Just an update on this postcard.

I bought the postcard ( I know sad ain't it ) and have been able to study it closer.

It was posted on 20/5/1970 from Sitges ( Playa de Oro ) to Belgium.

Sitges has a long history of motor racing the Penya Rhin Grand Prix was run over a 9mile circuit round the town and mountain roads.

The Jensen is a 541 not an R it appears to be Black on the actual postcard and studying it thru a jewellers loupe you can just make out 9 A in the middle of the plate.

The only 541 that was solid Black when it left the factory and had a plate with a 9 A on it was 4319/321 and its reg was 889 ANN.
