Interceptor Mk 2 value advice

Hi all

I need a little advice about the value of my '69 Interceptor MK2.

I brought this car from Lord Strathcarron via Cropredy Bridge in 1999. All log books original manuals etc 8 track stereo with cassettes!

It is a totally genuine car, two owners from new. Good interior all original, body a bit shabby, needs work and re spray. I've had it stored for 10 years. It runs but brakes seized. 70K on the clock. I suppose its a barn find.

Due to small kids I've not been looking at values of cars and was wondering where this would sit roughly if sold. I know this is probably an unanswerable question, but I'd thought I'd ask anyway!

Without photos and more detail I'd say you've got to be looking at between £7-£12k. If the sills and floors are solid and it doesn't need much new panelwork you'd go towards the top of my guesstimate. If it needs a structural rebuild you're looking towards the lower end.

Considering somebody paid £3300 for that junker on Ebay last week I reckon you could be a bit conservative.

Best bet is to get a memeber to have a look for you,,,, so need to know your whereabouts.. and see who is closest,.
This way you have a better idea instead of just guessing

Or do a deal with Andy at Appleyards to recommission and sell it for you? His assessment would be trustworthy and respected by all.

Don't touch it Steve. Don't "recommission" it or titivate it, leave it as it is.

It is a very important motor car and you need specialist advice from an experienced auction house as to its value and the correct way to market it.

Talk to your registra's, they WILL steer you the best way, thats what they are there for.
I'd take no advise from anyone else, we are talking best advise from club experts who have combined 1000+ (well not quite!) years with things Jensen.

So, join if havn't & seek this free & welcome council.
Or talk to a trader, thats also fine.

I hardly think changing the fluids and freeing the brakes is going to devalue it Keith, Wayne Carini would do at least that, even if he left the dust on it!

My advice, put it to auction then anyone on the forum who may have personal interest can bid what they feel its worth to them. Word will get around that's its available and at least your not sand boxing yourself and relying on others to dictate its value. Maybe Lord what is name was an important figure, but it will mean nothing if your the owner of a pile of rubble. Saw an SP sell by way of the forum recently but it was less than open and you cant say wether the seller got the best deal as I would imagine the buyers were limited by nature of the platform. important past owners is not a guarantee of a pile of cash either so keep your feet on the ground. Isn't the Robbins car still for sale.

I'm going to disagree with Keith, whilst Lord Strathcarron was a Jensen enthusiast and a lifelong supporter of the JOC I find it hard to believe that because a car was once owned by him will result in a significant premium being paid for it. Good luck to Steve, advertise it on ebay as such but don't be too disappointed if it makes what a normal Mk II in that sort of condition would make. The Eric Morecambe car did not command a significant premium over a similar Mk I in that condition.

I think any complete Jensen which has a nice original interior and a body which hasn't been previously got at (but isn't too rusty now) is worth pushing the price envelope to acquire - if you can. Having already identified a proper restorer (unless you're doing it yourself) who has agreed to take on the work, who you trust - and importantly, you've critically examined examples of his/their finished work.

The Lord Strathcarron association is probably one of the closest links to the Jensen brothers you'll likely to get. Although, being a fan of Jensen, I suspect Lord Strathcarron owned numerous Jensens over the years - so might not add much value at present. However, time digging around trying to get period pictures of the car with the previous owner might help the sale?

I've never sold a car at auction but if I did I'd want to try and get it accepted at an auction at a big foot fall event (Goodwood Revival/Speed, Beaulieu) where potential international buyers are also present - rather than at a pseudo posh auction, with an overpriced catalogue, located in a shed still smelling of manure. But that might be more difficult to achieve than I realise.

Hi all

Thank you all for your comments. Its great knowing you are all so enthusiastic. I took a couple of photos at the garage where they have it no as I wanted to know what is needed to free the brakes.

Here's some more info
First Registered 01/11/1969
Strathcarron acquired it that day.
I purchased it from him on 12/12/1998

Chassis No 123/3584
Engine No 1848/123E

78K on clock, thats genuine.

The body needs work, the main damage seems to be the bonnet where paint has cracked and rust under. Doesn't seem to be too deep most rubs off. Area of paint has cracked off. Boot lid below the window has cracks and same scenario cracking rust etc. Drivers door has paint cracked near window formed an open sore! Area under drivers side exhaust pipe has rust exposed.
All original paint I think.

Interior all original used and rather lovely. brightwork ok some good some bad. As I said it runs but brakes locked.

That looks as though it needs a lot of metal work - probably bonnet, lower front wings, door skins, rear lower repair section probably floors and inner rear wings prior to any respray. I think Paul's lower end estimate is on the money, as it will take the best part of 30k to get it back into a nice condition.
