P66 Progress Update

Post by DerekCV8 »

At last, the front end of the P66 is ready for the colour coat and lacquer to be applied. It was a long time getting there, but hopefully worth the effort! Still a long way to go, but the engine, heads and gearbox have been rebuilt and Brake & Clutch Cylinders, and Servo, should be back soon.

Further updates will follow…...

Collected the chrome work for the P66 today. Expensive, but a good job done. The bumper blades are aluminium, so were tricky, but they look great now!

At today's chroming prices that must cost at least half a zillion quid :o . Just pop those bits back on and you'll be on the road in a flash!

Keep up the good work Derek

Looking good!, super job as always Derek.
Does the chassis have any 541S/CV8 panels in it or is it totally unique?.

Dave.

It's totally unique Dave….. though it does have peripheral tubes, much the same as the 541 and one of these is used as a vacuum reservoir for the brakes, as per C-V8.

Just had these new Brake Fluid Reservoirs manufactured, to replicate the original Dunlop reservoirs for the P66. They are not exact, but a very good representation of the original. They have been machined from Nylon by a company close to me and, though not cheap, they are FAR cheaper than having tooling made for injection moulding which would be around £7000 to £8000…!!

I can get these manufactured for around £50 each….. and that includes the lid!

Superb!
Wish I had known that your repro- project is so close to the finish line.
Would have used them instead of making my reservoirs.

Wasn't sure how they were going to turn out Joerg, so just ordered the three I required for the P66. However, more can be produced as he still has the program for the machining.

Finished fitting all the steering linkages yesterday, and today fitted the modified (possibly more original?) bonnet release, rebuilt heater unit and fan, and the rebuilt wiper motor. Nice to see bits going back on!
